Or do you just ignore them. What if it's one of those people with a million dollar check?!

I'd open the door for you anyday ;)

Seriously, not really. Every so often, I get either the Jehovah's Witnesses or some crackhead who wants to rake my leaves and mow my lawn for five bucks. Either way, I don't open the door unless I'm interested.

No I don't. I look out the side of the blinds on my door and if I don't know them then I ask them to leave. If they keep knocking, then I will call the police. You never know how many crazy people pose as police officers, repairmen, firemen, pizza delivery people, and the such that stake out a house and then try to gain access to do bodily harm or worse to a person. I have taught my children never to open the door-if I leave and my husband is home-our daughter goes and gets him to answer the door. Noone should ever answer the door for anyone they don't know. If the person looks suspicious-call the police. I am not losing my life over opening my door to strangers-period!

I always open my door to strangers. I have a door mat that says "Ring doorbell and run, the dog needs the exercise." So they have a slight clue as to what might happen if they have any funny business on their minds. The other, not so subtle clue is the loud barking they will hear from the 2 German Shepherds, one of which is a giant Shepherd with huge bone structure and mostly black. He tends to frighten strangers.

Besides, if they do try something, I wont have to worry about new dog food

Not if they're Jehova's Witnesses. I can spot them a mile off. If they come round I just stand in the window and stare at them until they go away. Neither do I open the door to kids who are out trick-or-treating as I have moral objections to that.

Yes, I live in a safe place.

Anyway, the door which leads to the interior of the house is not the same that strangers knock or ring...

We have a wall and a gate surrounding the house...

Normally, I ignore them. A little while ago, I did open the door and met someone really nice. I wish I would see her again. I think we really hit it off.

Well, I have my wooden door and my storm door. I open the wooden door and talk to the stranger through the glass of the storm door.

No absolutely not. I live in Chicago and you don't want to do that around here. Maybe the Police and then I want to see the badge from the window while the door is shut and double locked.. We do have break ins around here.
