Buy whatever fits him.
24M is a little bigger in the diaper area while 2T has a somewhat snugger fit. The theory (and don't ask me how clothing manufacturer's can be this silly) is that once you get to the toddler stages, your child is potty trained and doesn't need the extra room.
But other than that, they are essentially the same size.

my daughter is 8 months old and she is in 12 month clothes, some are actually 18 months. some clothes even though the size says the same, some just fit either smaller or bigger....
i always by a size up. You are better off going the next size up from 24 months and if thats 2T then thats what you should get... since they grow so fast, if its a little big, at least you will get your moneys worth

Depends on how big the boy is. My son has been long and stout ever since he was born, so he got in the 2T clothes about 25 months in. You really need to take him along to the store and see what works best on him.

It's more about weight and height than age. 24 months can be a little bit smaller than a 2T. It depends on the brand.

2T is a little bigger than 24 months so it depends on the size of your child

buy what fits , sizes in clothes differ a lot, also it depends on if your son is average size for his age or not...... One of my daughters was only in 6-9 month clothes at that age
