That's a contradiction in terms.

The UK, not matter what their economy is, can't be a 3rd-world country.

1st world - Classic powers and colonizing nations, plus the US
2nd world - Colonized nations, industrialized during that time
3rd world - non-industrialized nations, not colonies.

I don't think a 3rd world country but I read a very good article recently on the changing economies, that predicted in the next 10-20 years, there will be a top group of countries (including US, India, China), a middle tier with most of Europe and the UK that doesn't have as much economic clout today, and then the third world, based on the changing demographics and economic situations of the world.

All you need is to elect an idiot like George Bush to run your country into the ground and yu will have a third world country like we do. Heck, we can't even take care of our infrastructure or rescue a city full of people in a flood anymore. Thank the stupidity of our Republicans.

Anything can happen, but given the UKs history and lifeline, its not very likely unless a huge "act of God/nature" unleashed some strange fury.

I can't imagine that ever occurring. The people are too sophisticated, educated, resourceful, and innovative.
There is a good infrastructure and adaptability to changes
