Can anyone recommend a book about space? It'll be for a christmas present, and I want to spend up to £10. Nothing too complicated, just a book with lots of photos would be ideal.

I have read two absolutely great books: They are probably still available

1. Rare Earth this deals with why life in the universe may be very common, but simple. We may be the only intelligence. Or just one of a few.

2.. The life and death of Planet Earth by the same authors as the above book. Another exceedingly readible work, this one dealing with the future of the planet. It doesn't look good.

Both books are by Peter Ward and Donald Brownlee.

Depends on your friend's interests. On the theoretical side, I would still recommend Cosmos by Carl Sagan. On the amateur astronomy / go look through a telescope side, the best by far is Nightwatch by Terence Dickinson.

Both of these books are really fun to read, and both are packed full of accurate illustrations.
