A guy is coming to my house to replace my rotors. Is it rude to ask if I can watch him so I can learn how to do it myself next time?

i do mobile auto repair i dont mind if people watch we also talk a little (just a little)
the problem comes when the conversations take me away from the repair like while i am working on front brakes and your having me discribe the workings of the back ones
also it does take me a little longet as i need to re check things i normally dont
its funny most of the goofs i make like leaving a bolt loose or something like that is when someone is talking to me and i getout of the grove i went to tighten it you interupted me and asked about some thing else and in my brain i had allready tightened it so i went to the next step
i have had some that talked so much i pack up my tools and leave and come back when there not there

Anna, Your a lady of my own heart. That's exactly how to learn, take plenty of notes, watch what tools he uses and the exact sequence he does the job. Before he comes ask him please to install ceramic brake pads on your car. They are much cleaner and do not grind up your brake rotors as do metallic and semi-metallic pads do. When I used the word cleaner, it refers to the amount of filthy red / brown brake dust that eventually flies on your wheels and tires.

Ask him if it's OK for you to ask questions. If it's OK to ask as he works, toss a question at him if your don't fully understand a specific thing he's doing. Ask him things like: What do you use for slider pin grease? Do you use CRC brake quiet so my new brakes don't squeal? He'll think you're pretty sharp oops - (smart).

Believe me, a guy would much rather talk to a lady than some "doofass" guy.

Not in your case but most of the time yes. Some people get self conscience, especially when the customer starts tellling them how to do it wrong.

Nope it's not rude. I think the mechanic would welcome a nice chat. He gets to promote his skills so that you can recommend him to your friends. You also get to know more about your car and get some advice on good maintenance. You also get to keep a guard if he's doing something odd.

Depends on the dude! I don't mind 'teaching' others but some fellas might not like being 'overseen'. Kinda makes me wonder if they're doing a crummy job! Best to you! ;-)=
