When someone is sentenced to life imprisonment, then life will actually mean life.

There are a couple of things i would change. Firstly, a small change, I would have the judge set for every crime a minimum term if the sentence is prison. That minimum sentence MUST be adhered to and can only be changed by the courts. Secondly, this might sound a bit oppressive, but I would further restrict what a news paper can say about criminal proceedings, from the reporting of the crime to the conviction. After the trial, after conviction, after justice has run its course, fine, report as you like, but I dont like the influence the media are seen to have (im not saying they have the influence im saying that the general perception is trial by media). So I definately would not allow them to report ANYTHING about suspects until they have been tried and convicted. This stops the media ruining potentially innocent people lives by ambushing them, by sleuthing into their past etc. It protects the suspect, who is innocent until proven guilty, and protects against conviction by a biased jury. Now, Im not suggesting that Ian Huntley didn't deserve to be convicted, I havent seen the evidence, but he is a high profile example of a man criminalised by the media, and as a result guilty until proven guilty.

Thirdly the law on attempts need changing. Currently it seems that a criminal must have begun the offence for him to be convicted of an attempt, the bar is set so close to the actual offence that its virtually useless.

I've got more but no time! Ta ta!!

Create a law for the removal of all loop holes contained within all U.S laws. Also have all laws rewritten in layman's terms, So as the average U.S citizen could understand them.

Great question...but could the voters get the legislators attention on business long enough to do just that?!

First thing would be to get rid of the antiquated laws such as in my state:

"You may not have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time." or;

Arkansas:

"A law provides that school teachers who bob their hair will not get a raise." or;

California:

"No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour."

...just to name a few.

Sadly, legislators are so busy bickering between themselves that "dumb" laws continue to be ignored while lawmaker payraises are a priority!

Just my humble opinion!

I would make it so that as soon as you are proved (found guilty in a court of law) to have violated another persons human rights (anything from robbing their house, stealing their car right up to murder) then you automatically forfeit all your human rights, then there would be no molly coddling of criminals, letting them have IVF, TVs in their cells, suing the government left right and centre. It's just not on.

I would rescind the Human Rights legislation which has been tying us all in knots and preventing us from making any progress with sorting out the mess we have got ourselves into. We could then return to sanity in the UK.

I would change the perception that the 14th amendment gives citizenship to anchor babies. It does not, but it needs to be either clarified in the Court or re-written so that those who chose to pervert the Constitution for their own benefit would not be able to do so.

I would have the much-out-of-date Alabama state consitution rewritten so that (among other things) the whole darned state doesn't have to vote on issues that only affect individual counties.

Make the playing of bagpies illegal and punishable by death.
Why -they get on my t................s

And I wouldn't change the law so that you could claim the car that has been parked outside your house for months.
