I don't know other than the scent sac of a deer, but never knew it was available to buy somewhere. I don't know what the name of it would be either. Can anyone help?

First, for the idiots in the audience: Musk can be collected without harming the deer. For people who simply misunderstand, actual musk is NOT the same thing as the deer scent or so-called "musk" that is used by hunters. Real musk only comes from deer of the species Moschus moschiferus, M. chryogaster, or M. fuscus. These deer are all currently threatened or endangered. The "musk" scents you can buy in perfumes and incense today are all synthetic substitutes (inferior).

Second, it is illegal to import real musk from the musk deer to the USA--sorry.

It is said that the "spikenard" plant resembles musk in aroma.

Metatarsal glands are located on the outside of the deer's hind legs and yes they are commonly known as scent glands. It's a strong smelling potion that either calls in the deer for breeding or fighting purposes. Hunters use it to mark spots close to their hunting blinds or trees so they can find them more easily.

What's your boss using it for?

Go to a sporting goods store such as Cabelas, Ganders Mountain, Scheels, generally any place that sells guns and ammo will carry scents. Some have fox urine to cover the hunter's scent and tracks on their clothing, shoes, or traps.

Yeah and this sounds like a trick question designed to be funny. You know that deer scent is available wherever hunting supplies are sold.
