If they let me I'm gonna take care of them because one day you will need someone to take care of you and I trust that one day my children will also.

Definately. I am 28 and my parents are still able to take care of themselves but as long as i can do it i will. They are wonderful and have been there for me emotionally and physically. They care for us so why not return the favor.

My mum actually said to me that she doesn't want me to take care of her because it's always the girl that gets left looking after the elderly parents and that my brothers should help her. Although I would help her financially if she needed it.

We are already preparing, my mom and I plan to buy a house together next year so she will be right there when she needs something. She just retired this past spring...I'm so jealous, I have 30 more years of working. I just hope I'm financially able to do well for her.

I will if they want it. It is not so much part of the modern American culture to care for your elders. Sometimes it's an incredible burden. I like to think that there is something in it that is deeply right and nurturing. Time will tell.

I did take care of my parents and my in-laws until they died (old age or disease). I don't expect my daughter to care for us. She has her own family to worry about. I expect I will end up in some kind of care facility. Of course, my sister could take care of me if she's in good health. She did when I got my colon cancer and during my chemo... I am blessed! :D
