Recently someone on the radio said "if Oprah endorsed a bucket of slop, millions would buy it". Then there are Oprah's favorite things, and those things sell through the roof simply because they are her favorites! I can't think of another woman who is/was as powerful. People worship her as though she is a God. Why is this?

I don't think that it is power. I believe she is just a very well respected celebrity whom you never see in the spotlight doing bad things. She gives millions to charities and has helped out hundreds of thousands of people through out her career. anyone that is that giving will earn respect and admiration.

What gives her the power is her money, Oprah is one of the richest women in the world, I think people just love her for all the good she has done world wide, she is a smart woman, I personally think her shows OK but I do respect her for all she does to help the people who need help.

I'm not a big fan of her show. Too many whiny, clueless people on there who don't know how to control their own lives or don't want to. But Oprah 's charities world wide have improved the quality of lives for thousands... especially down and out and abused women of every color. The media only spotlights her trips to Africa but Oprah has given countless scholarships here at home , too. Her celebrity has not gone to her head it seems as much as her prodigy... Dr. Phil, who seems to think he walks on water.

I think it is because millions see her show everyday and feel that they know her. They are big fans, so Oprah can advertise anything on her show and it will sell. Also, Oprah has money! Everyone admires that. She a single woman of color that has made the big time. People love that! She has beat the odds.

Oprah is a female, African-American journalist who's worked very over the years and become hugely successful. People like her, her show, her style and the fact that she seems more human and genuine than many on-air celebrities. She's credible and addresses issues that many Americans deal with every day.

I don't worship Oprha, but definitely she's very influencial in people. She's a successful business woman who started with nothing and made a great career, plus she helps a lot of people witouth loosing her humbleness.
I mya not agree with who she endorses but I admire this woman as a business person, intelligent, well educated adn close to the people.

I personally don't worship any human being, my devotion is to Jehovah God exclusively.
You asked why Oprah is so powerful, because she's smart and dedicated to what she believes in...and therefore is not afraid to go all out with her ideas.

Oprah needs to be discredited publically in a convincing way that everyone remembers.
I don't like Oprah. I think her television programme is just a mechanism for her to promote products and television personalities, instead of real issues. It's chequebook journalism. Take her promotion of "The Secret" for instance. An ideology that asserts that you can get whatever you want by focussing on it? Really? All those starving little kids in third world countries are starving because they can't focus on food? LIttle kids have autism because they just can't visualise being healthy? Women get raped because they didn't visualise not getting raped hard enough?
Oprah Winfrey has a lot to answer for.

Not everyone worships her but there are alot of black women and also men whom she influences.
In America that is a massive amount of people.
