You can password protect your folders etc through User Accounts in the Control Panel in Windows XP...
but ...
If you want to lock your comp so absolutely no one can get into ANY information on it, you go into your BIOS and you can password protect it from there. You dont even get into Windows. It stops access and asks for the password from bootup.
IMPORTANT!!..do NOT forget the password or you will have major dramas getting in as well.
Its the best way I know to stop access to your comp.

Windows has a desktop password function build into it. No need to add another software. In the Control Panel, click on the User icon and find your log in account. Set a password. Simple as that....

windows xp has a pasword function, when you want to lock it, go to log out and say switch user, you can also set this to password when your go to screensaver
