People in Mexico have several different ethnic extractions. Principally, they are part Spanish and part Indian. During colonial times some (but not too many) Africans were brought to Mexico and they are included in the "mestzaje", the mixture, that is Mexico.
As far as the Indian groups are concerned...
Mayans and Aztec were the two dominant and advanced cultures during Spanish colonial times. There were numerous other Indian groups who contribute to the ethnic heritage of Mexico. The Incas ARE NOT Mexican. They are Peruvian.

Mexicans are basically Spanish and Indian mixture of various degrees. Ethnically speaking Mexico has around 30 million Indians compared to 3 million in the USA. Mexicans are not part black. Look at the physical characteristics, the food, the music. All are Indian/Spanish influence. Blacks are but a small number in Mexico. Looking at my grandparents and where they are from could make me about 1/3 Indian and 2/3 Spanish.

Mexicans themselves are the ones that are mixed, not mixed with.
You can see the various differences if you have met more than a few.
The Mexicans are a mix of several tribes of Indians, Spaniards, and in some cases Africans that were brought over to there.
Just take a look sometime, it can be pretty easy to see the differences. I would know since I'm married to a Mexican-American.

They are a mixture of Spanish with Aztec, basically. Whenever I am on Mission Street in SF, Mexicans always talk to me in Spanish, because they think I am one of them. Actually, Dad was French with some Iranian, and Mom is Dutch and Cherokee.

I was told once they are mixed of the native culture, Spanish and French. Don't know if that is right, but that is what I heard.
