There was an Earthquake last night in North Carolina, North America. I'm from Maryland, North America. I heard it on the news this morning and it shocked me. They said it was a 3.1. What kind of Earthquakes you guys have?

2002 or 2003 there was one in Ft. Payne, AL, which is a little bit from Auburn but it was big for Alabama and felt into Tennessee (where I was at the time).

Tennessee got lots of little EQs all the time.
Virginia not so much.

I remember seeing something about intra-plate earthquakes in USA as being because of the melted ice from the last glacial period, about 10,000 BCE. As I understand it, the weight of the ice pushed down on the earth even deep underground. So earthquakes like that happen from the earth slowly rebounding, even after all this time. Personally, I don't know why it would take so long for the rebound to happen, but I'm not a geologist.
