This may be partially a "wish fullfillment" type dream, bred out of a desire to see your mother again. Just because there was no unresolved issue with your mother before she died, are you sure that's the same after she died? What I mean by that is this: It's difficult to get over the loss of a loved one. One of the stages of grief is anger. We have unfocused anger that the person we love is no longer around. Sometimes people feel guilty about that anger, and then internalize those feelings.

It could also be that you are just still sad that the woman who raised and loved you, who you thought would be there forever, is not there anymore. Although you can rationalize it as death being a part of life, it doesn’t mean that you will ever truly get over the fact that you love her, and she is gone.

Really, our dreams are incredibly random. They can call upon any memory or sensation that's part of your brain's repetoir. But because the brain works in such incredible ways, the memories and sensations can still bring up powerful emotions.
