Wow - Did this bring back some old memory cells that should be dead. In a junior high school science class we made analemma on the ceiling of the class room. We glued a mirror to a window sill and once a week at the same time, we would mark the reflection of the sun on the ceiling with tape. I remember how amazed I was when it crossed over to complete the figure eight. RScott

Analemma is new, but lemma (from which its derived) is not. You probably heard the word too, back in high school. When studying Algebra II (or perhaps Pre-calc), these forms come up pretty regularly when studying equations in polar coordinates.

Actually I have seen this name, I very ofter go to the astronomy pic of the day and you will find many words that are not used very much, There are more simple ways to describe such things,
