Yes .....hence the electoral college.

Yes the founding fathers writing the constitution did not trust the people voting, so they established the electoral college to represent the states that do the actual selection.

All Candidate are, on paper , selected by their parties. There is no constitutional basis for political parties...but if we didn't have parties, the job would now be taken by Steve Jobs or Bill Gates...fine guys...but only the super tich could compete today as it takes multi-millions of dollars to run and win.
The selection process is now dominated by state primaries so the party apperatus is limited in the selection process.

in lebanon they get assisinated if they are elected so they have to be selected.

I totally don't care about US elections where it is "election" or "selection". They all are oppressors; you know already !.
