I am 14 wks tomorrow and I never eat. I like only burger king and thats one meal i can eat up without gagging. When i go to the fridge, i get sick just by opening it and looking at all of that darn food! I hate the smell of garlic, and I take pre natal vitamins and stuff, but i feel guilty. I bought some of those ensure drinks and i guzzle it down and consider it breakfast. My husband begs me to eat but I refuse, even my doctor wants me to eat but i just CANT. I have lost 25 lbs since i got pregnant and I feel so guilty, i try to eat but i just cant. What can I do? is the ensures and vitamins enough?

nausea is common in all pregnancies. BUT YOU MUST EAT!! Ensure and pregnancy vitamins will not get it...after the baby has sucked every nutrient from your body you will begin to get ill and not be able to recover. Just eating fast food is bad for baby and you as well. YOU MUST EAT HEALTHY FOOD!! YOU MUST FORCE YOURSELF!! Start on bland foods..mashed tators, mac and cheese yogurt rice. If you don't get a handle on it your baby could come out unhealthy or even deformed and handicapped. First time moms have a hard enough time just learning how to care for a healthy infant...think of what you are doing to that baby eveytime you deny your body food. That baby needs the best and now is the time to learn how to put your baby's health first!

Is you doctor aware of the vitamins and ensure drinks you are taking????. I am 20 weeks and lost my appetite around the 14 weeks also. I spoke to my doc and she would not leave me take vitamins as your body is working overtime with hormones and chemicals at this stage. With these chemicals in your body they may absorb more of the vitamins than they would if you were not pregnant. A build up of vitamin my be harmful for your baby. I would speak to your doc and show her what you taking to make sure they are ok to take while pregnant.
I found that eating small amounts, even when I was not hungry or feeling like it, helped. I ate a lot of fruit and liquidized veg. and made soup. Even thought they were not very nice, I could get them into me fast and felt that I was after taking some thing healthy.
Your baby will be fine, it is strong and they are able to cope with a lot. But I would try to eat something. I am 20 weeks now and gone the opposite way....I cant stop eating and feeling hungry all the time.
Hope it all works out for you, good luck.

I kind of went through the same thing but not to your severity. I would make myself eat, even if it were a little. I had morning sickness up until 12 weeks and then after that nothing sounded good. But I would just eat whatever I could stomach. Now at 22 weeks I can eat just about anything. Your baby needs the nutrients to grow. I know it is a tough time when you feel this way but just try and eat a little at a time whether you feel like it or not. Good luck!

First of all, what you're going through is a normal stage of pregnancy. Most women find that they either can't eat because everything makes them nauseous, or simply don't want to eat because of how they feel during this first trimester. Unfortunately, you can't just skate through this time and not eat, or just eat Burger King :o)
It's incredibly important that you give your baby the nutrition it needs through all stages of your pregnancy. Can you imagine the energy it takes to build an entirely new body from scratch, in just nine months! Baby needs constant nutrition from you, even if you're not hungry. It's recommended that a pregnant women daily eats:
4 servings of dairy
2 eggs (great protein source - even if you don't like them)
2 servings of dark green leafy veggies
5 servings of whole grains/breads/cereals
2 servings of vitamin C foods
2, 4 oz. servings of meat, fish poultry or meat substitute
5 (PER WEEK) servings of vitamin A foods (yellow veggies)
3 servings of fats (good, natural fats - real butter, avocado, etc.)

I went through a few weeks where nothing but cheese sounded good! I got so sick of eggs, but I figured out more creative ways of having them. I made protein smoothies of fruit (there's protein, and vitamin C) and added my eggs, raw, to the shake. Uncooked eggs are not harmful to you, or your baby, however, before people go nuts giving me thumbs down, let me explain. Yes, there is bacteria present that needs to be taken care of. The good news for all out there is that the bacteria that we are so afraid of is present on the outside of the EGGSHELL, not the egg itself! Raw eggs are not harmful if you gently wash the shell with a little bit of antibacterial soap (make sure to rinse it well) before breaking them.
The weight loss is a little bit of a concern. It's not abnormal for a woman to lose weight at first, but 25 lbs. is kind of a lot. Please, just do your best with eating small portions at a time - just munch throughout the day. I personally always did better with fresh things, like apples, when food in general made me nauseous. I don't even really like apples, but I was eating two a day in my first trimester!
The good news is that this phase should pass soon. Until then, keep up with the Ensures, try to follow the diet listed above the best you can, and know that you're building a precious little body - it's worth the nausea for a few weeks!
Good luck.

Keep taking the vits and ensure. Get the garlic and other things that upset you out of the house.

Try to eat very small amounts of food many times during the day. Even a single spoon of food, a single green bean, taken often enough, will add up to significant nutrition. Eat the sinful stuff like ice cream and other fattening foods.

If you take only one small bite at a time, force yourself, your body will say "well, that was yucky, but its not enough to throw up over" and it will stay down.

Eventually, your desire to eat should return.

No, no no no no no no. Those are not enough. You have GOT to find a way to eat or you're going to mess up your baby! Don't mean to sound so direct, but even if it make you sick, do it for your baby. Go to the doctor, get second opions, look up more stuff on something you can take to make you stop getting nautious. You should not have lost 25 lbs being pregnant. You've got to find a way to eat girl! At least something, anything, you knwo?

My doctor told me to take Flinstones vitamins (2 tablets instead of the usual one) everyday instead of the Prenatal vitamins because they aren't so rough on your stomach. Talk with you doctor and see what they think about this. You have to eat, they baby's growth and development depend on the food that you eat. I was very sick and lost some weight also, so I know how you feel. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water! Try eating soup and crackers, fruit or some fresh veggies.

Ensure and vitamins are GREAT! Good job there mom!
OK,,what you need to do is adopt a better/healthier lifestyle plan. This is will be good for you AND your little miracle growing inside you. If you swim,,,I guarentee you,,,you will be starving after a good physical work routine in the water (PLUS,,it's fun). So GET OFF THE COUCH,,,start excersizing and eating LESS fatty foods (which cause people to become seditary). You are what you eat,,if you want to BE lively,,,eat alive things,,ie fresh fruits and veggies. You'll look better,,,feel better,,,preform better and your baby won't suffer like he/she is now.
I don't blame you,,,I blame your parents who probably didn't understand what a healthy lifestyle meant,,and inadvertantly passed on their badlifesyle habits to you. BUT YOU CAN CHANGE,,,you MUST,,for your little life inside you.

You should be coming out of the nauseous feeling soon as you are beginning your second trimester. You are going to have to find something that you like and start eating. You should not lose weight during your pregnancy. Avoid the smells that make you sick. Try eating foods that are not too pungent - eat crackers, bread, rice, apples, milk. Good luck and congratulations.

It is very normal not to have an appetite....and, it should go away very soon...in the next couple of weeks. However, consult with your obgyn to make sure that everything is okay!
