Gambling addiction is known as a "pure addiction" because it doesn't require a substance to get "high". To defeat pure addictions, you need to understand first where they come from and where they have their roots in the persons mind.

It's so hard to watch someone time and time again hurt themselves and those around them due to problem gambling, and the road to recovery is not easily walked. It takes time, support and advice, which if you've never been addicted to gambling is hard to give.

I recommend checking out www.recoveryandbeyond.net

They provide a program called "Shawn and Drew's 21 steps to STOP GAMBLING" The key element in the program is that you can "quit" gambling hundreds of time, but you'll keep going back again and again, so you need to learn to STOP GAMBLING altogether, and have your mind start functioning in a healthy and productive way.

I hope this helps, I know what it's like.

Your addicted to gambling and you can spin it any way you like but the bottom line is your on the road to financial ruin if you don't make the changes needed to head it off. Good thing is you realized early on you have a problem but then most addicted gamblers know this but continue in their destructive ways making up all kinds of excuses for what they do but at the end of the day it's you and your wallet verses a very professional business that employs all kinds of experts who know how to separate you from your money. You are a a sheep in a wolves clutches. You strart by saying today I'm not going to gamble and take it from there , a day at a time.

There is only one thing that you can actually do and that is too stop enabling them. Let me explain, my mother had a serious gambling problem when I was about 16 I "fixed" things. Basically dealt with bills and debt collectors, made a little bit of food go a long way and engaged in her lies. For example, always saying her pension went on petrol - we both knew it did not but I didn't want to rock the boat.

Then I had to just stop - it was the hardest thing to do - but I had to tell my mother that her behaviour was hurting me and I was not going to be doing it any longer. She had to deal with the debt collecters, find ways to shop or face us going hungry.

But, I did this constantly reassuring her that I loved her vey much and I could not stop her gambling but I needed to stop it hurting me.

Basically I had to allow her to own the problem, bring it out inthe open and let her see the chaos she was causing her daughter. I was very lucky and my mum did stop gambling - many people are not so lucky.

Addiction often comes from feelings of self hatred, depression or some other underlying problem.

All the best.
