On their nuts!!! Let me rephrase, they sleep in the trees wherethey burrow and hide their food stockpile for the winter. So,actually they do sleep on their nuts!!

In the trees with the other squirrels! Show her the big ball of leaves in the tree tops and tell her that's a squirrel nest!!!!! Then she'll probably ask why do they live up there?????? Tell her because!!! You know the routine!!!!

In their nests. While they don't build nests exactly like birds do, they will nevertheless nest in holes in the tree, often made by other critters like woodpeckers, or holes that occur naturally, or in clusters of leaves and twigs. They'll often find their way into people's attics and sleep in there. Or into barns and sheds on nearby farms, woodsheds and storage sheds outside your home, and even deep inside your evergreen shrubbery. They're adaptive little critters, are squirrels.

They usually build their nest in the top of a tree and live there. It'll look like a cocoon w/a hole in for them to get in or out.
