Poor Tarot cards :(
Don't worry about it. Although I haven't ever thrown a deck away I have lost decks. They are just pictures on cards, the power is in what you bring to them. I don't believe you need to burn cards. I aways suggest giving them away to good will so they can find someone else. If it makes you feel better, do a small ritual when you get your new deck. However the ritual is for YOU, not because there is any evil or badness attached to what you did. Working with Tarot is about doing those things that feel right to you. Only the things that feel right.
I've read Tarot for over 20 years, and I've taught Tarot, as a past instructor for the Barnes and Noble Tarot for Beginners course, I am someone who is for Tarot :o)

Yes, I've used tarot cards quite a bit over the years and have done some studies into their histories and symbolism which I find very interesting even though I am not an out and out diehard occultist. I have in this time found absolutely nothing which backs up undue reverence for tarot cards which have been given as a gift, if anything you are supposed to choose your own, which you can now do freely without any guilt about what happened to your last deck. Really, tarot cards are personal like underwear or toothbrushes. The only esoteric teaching I have heard of about gifts is that the best gift to give or receive is a mug or cup or glass because that shows you are worthy of receiving or giving love.
So never mind what your friends say, go out and buy some if you want, the tarot has no weird supernatural power over you, but it is quite an interesting system if you want to use it, and has inspired a lot of very interesting art work. I personally prefer the good old retro Rider Waite, but the deck you choose is a matter of personal choice.

Hello Hey
Have studied tarot for over 20 years, I run a home study tarot course & workshops - so believe me when I say that it is not bad luck or wrong to dispose of tarot cards.
They are 78 peices of pictured card, no more - no less. So that is all that you threw away.
Their wisdom comes from the reader & their link to spirit.
Buy some more, get some that you like the feel of. Listen to your inner self - not your fear filled friends.
They are a wonderful tool to use.
Pam

Go to your local Occult Bookstore or New Age Store and look through what they have. They should be able to show you some, even the cards on the inside, which Barnes and Noble won't do, so you can pick ones that have a connection to you. I believe in Jungian Archetypes, and they're contained within the Tarot, so you must find ones that talk to your psyche.. i.e. get a reaction when you look at them. Some cards should bring out some emotions: be in happiness, sadness, joy, excitement, movement, etc.

My friend. I was in the same situation as you were, I bought my first deck of Tarot Cards back in 2001 at the time my Spiritual pathway was very new. I made friends with someone who told me not to "dabble" and that was when I threw my Tarot cards and runes away.
As time wore on so did my confidence with my Spirituality and this is why I bought a new deck of Tarot (as well as runes) a few months back - do not listen to those who try to disuade you.
What I suggest is go to a bookstore or new age store anywhere that sells tarot and let yourself be guided to your new deck. Open and enjoy the lovely messages that come forward.

Do not worry about how to dispose of the cards, etc. They are just cards. The "power" in the cards is only in you and what you bring to them. The cards are a tool only. If you are going to do work in divination and magick, it cannot be based in fear and superstition. It will backfire on you. I have written several essays about Tarot on my 360 blog, which you are welcome to visit. You will need to scroll back in time to find the posts (how to center yourself for card reading, how to do a reading, and the history of the Tarot, and samples of cards from historical decks.)
Yes, go treat yourself to a new deck of cards. Have FUN not fear with them.

All that is wrong is that you did what others wanted and not what you wanted. Don't worry about it. The cards are not supernatural, they are simply symbolism and a tool for you to understand yourself better. You are not communicating with other forces (good or bad) when you use the cards, just gaining insight into a world that is your world.

have a look at yahoo horoscopes..there is a free online daily tarot..leave the cards alone for now..when you are ready a pack will apppear...probably as a gift. try to understand that a prediction is only a possiblity or one interpretation..it's not a prescription..It's very difficult to read your own tarot anyway..enjoy life and avoid critical friends..they reflect your inner critic which is who you need to have a chat with...give yourself the support you need

Tis said that Tarot cards thrown away will somehow return themselves to your possession...if the were meant to be for you. If you were uncomfortable with them ..they weren't meant to be for you> So when choosing another pack, the pack should choose you.
