Richie was able to connect with him in a human way and showed he wasn't afraid of him when they 1st met.... which turned The Fonz away from gang life..but because of his reputation he is still feared...even by those he he befriended. He is more like the big brother they turn to when things get tough...especially when it comes to girls.

There is a website out there that makes out the Fonz was a creepy loser. Think about it:
1. he had already left highschool and had a job
2. he hung out with 3 highschool boys
3. he was chasing high school girls
4. he was a sex addict. How many different girls does one so call cool dude really need? what the heck was he trying to prove?
I personally think he could have been a great cult leader:
1. he had convinced everyone of the "power" of cool that only he had control of
2. they treated him like a god
3. he was getting with all of the chicks in town
I still loved the series as a kid everybody.

The Fonz was an insecure guy who tried too hard and had to put on a front to protect himself. I wouldn't call the other guys nerds. They were just normal guys. Nerds weren't invented until they had to take revenge.

like the comedy; they are funny but think about THE FONZ for a minute.B'COZ THE FONZ socialized with 3 nerds (Richie, Potsie and Ralph) making Fonzie the fourth nerd.

If I remember correctly, he socialized mainly with women, girls, everybody else ... and then last on his list were the three nerds.
Thus proving His Coolness, because:
a) he did not feel himself to be 'above' anyone else, and as such was not 'above' being friends with nerds and
b) he was so cool that even hanging out with nerds 24/7 could not dent his Coolness one iota.

True, he did it because they were willing to play along with his cool guy persona, he wouldn't be able to maintain his alter ego amongst the real cool people, he justified it by saying things like, don't just people on their looks, and believe in yourself, because, like all these social parasites he tried to solve everyone else's problems to avoid facing his own.

Naw. He got all the girls, he was good with cars, he stood up to authority, he rode a motorcycle, but when it came down to it, he had a good heart.
He was really good as the Bluth's attorney in Arrested Development.
