Making Spanish as an official language is easy to say but, have you actually studied the language, in school or elsewhere? I have studied the language since my elementary days as it was one of the many subjects we had to take up in school, Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) in Cebu up until high school and 2 semesters in college at the University of San Carlos. However, all those years of slaving just to "habla Español" came to naught because I couldn't practice the language with anyone. In the same way that I studied Chinese which also came to nothing because I had no one to practice it with.
The language is difficult unlike English which has past, present and future tenses. Spanish covers everything that will make your head spin. And imagine memorizing a new set of vocabulary when we could spend it on something more worthwhile ( with our time)?!
No, nada. " Por favor, no hablo muy mucho Español y no comprendo esta lenguaje. "

Many college graduates from the Philippine schools barely speak fluent English, despite the fact that English has been the language of instruction and the official language for over 150 years..If the Philippine government will make Spanish as an official language,(or new official language) just think how long it would take before the people would be able to speak Spanish fluently.

Honestly, we have no official language. If any of the NAU stuff goes through, we'll wind up with 3+ languages, English, Spanish and French. This also doesn't take into account any Mexican Indian languages that may still be in use today.

Now, you believe in everything you read.
That article in wiki? Oh my ......
Ok, if all Filipinos can converse in perfect grammar in the English language, as well can write it .... I will be in favor. But, that would be impossible. There were lots of Out of School Youths. The Arroyo administration should take their attention for giving ALL Filipinos a quality education first before giving non-sense stuff just to impress other countries.

I agree. Maybe its the time that we learn another language other than english. Studying the Spanish wouldn't be hard for us since most of our words are taken from the Spanish language

We have as many dialect as our Islands thats why we are sloow in progress because we ourselves don't understand each other, we are still reeling from implementing Taglish(Tagalog/English) in our school system(are are almost top before in English for Asia , now we are way beelow there, Longtitud... What is this word) Spanish ... I could still remember my Spanish Professor in Feati University who likes to always pronounce FUMADO (smoke long tobacco ) he is gay and for us to pass his class , we girls has to be friends with our Pogi classmates , so he could use us , as bridge to our pogi classmate . Que Hora Es ? Thats the only thing I learned from my how many units Spanish Class in college (and am not a bobo student , am in the upper 5 of the class in Math and Sciences)
So For President Arroyo to please the King Carlos of Spain brought up the idea of Spanish as official language... and yes Spain is a part of our history ... we want to forget .

only if we could have good/native Spanish-speaking teachers that would teach us...
and oh, also, it'd be very nice if most Filipinos would master English, as well as the Filipino language, or just be fluent at it first before other languages...

I do not agree. We are no longer a Spanish Colony. Why should she? Spanish is embedded in Filipino already.
