well you did just answer you own question with "bubs will come when it is ready, lol!"
However you can try (and I mean no guarantees at all) some things closer to the time like..
Nipple stimulation - can produce natural hormone oxytocin to stimulate uterus to start contracting. but you need to do it 4-5 times a day for 20 mins or so at a time. Use a nipple cream or it might hurt.
Sex - afterwards lay with a big pillow under your butt/hips for at least 30mins so the semen can hopefully soften your cervix and with the hormones in it start your uterus contracting (the hormones are similar to the 'gel' they use to induce labour artificially). Having sex when you go to bed at night and then laying with it all night is even better.
Walking - gravity has a lot to do with the effectiveness of labour and contractions so keep as active as possible but with frequent rest breaks can help get things moving.
Castor Oil - its said to work but will give you a serious case of diarrhea with it so you have to figure out how desperate you are!
Stretch and Sweep - the doc can do a sweep of your membrans at your cervix which can make your plug fall out and possibly start contractions. Its very helpful if you have sex following this procedure. And then walk and do nippple stimulation.
Get your doctor to do an iternal exam next appointment to see if you are thinning or dilating at all. If you are shut up clam tight then probably nothing is going to work. If things are happening down there then the extra help you can give it might be enough to get you into labour.
Fingers crossed for you that something works!! Sex worked for me at 40+1d. I lost my plug straight after it (7.30am, had minor contractions all day but went into proper labour about 9.30pm and had bubs 7am - so 24 hours after sex. I also spent the day walking around, housework, shopping etc..and am convinced this all helped to start labour)
best of luck

Hi !! I am 39 weeks pregnant right now, & know what you are going through, I wish i could just hurry up & get this all over with, I am due on the 11th & if she isn't here by the 18th, they are inducing that day & i want to go into labor on my own before then. The only things people tell me to do to get labor started is to do lots & lots of walking, but every time i do this, my hips will go to hurting so bad that i can't get comfortable for awhile. So i am also trying to find ways to speed things up,& hoping something will eventually work ,lol ! So your not alone , maybe we will find something that works. Best of luck to ya !!!

It's probably the last thing you are thinking of doing, but sex can help speed the process and it has nothing to do with the pyhsically act of, it actually has to with the hormone in semen known as prostaglandins, which will help soften the cervix.
Along with many other things you can try are:
-walking
-spicy foods
-nipple stimulation (said to produce the hormone oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract)

Try Acupressure:
Press the webbing inbetween your thumb and index finger with great pressure and massaging movements - also on in you inner ankle. About 4 fingers up from your ankle bone.
Here is a website that has a free downloadable booklet:

Walking and caster oil didn't work for me. A hurricane did the trick for my mom. But they are out of season.
