Find an IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant) before the baby is born and have her come check on you the first week or so. Would have saved me a lot of hassle and pain.

Its a toss up between 2 things.

1st..Sleep/nap when baby does. Your a new mom. The laundry and dishes will get done. The floor does not need to be spotless and yes, your sig. other will understand! It will get done in time and these are moments you need to refresh yourself so you do not become overwhelmed.

2nd..If someone offers to help..TAKE THEM UP ON IT! The other stuff will get done. Let them watch baby for an hour so you can nap, let them go shopping for you or wash the dishes or cook. Whatever they offer. They wouldnt offer if the were not wanting and willing to actually do something!

There are some great websites that tell you exactly what you need but mostly some clothes, a hat, a car seat and pram and a moses basket/crib & blankets, nappies and formula with bottles and a microwave sterilizer, changing mat and baby bath and baby monitor!! Good luck

The best advice i culd give is, this is your baby, your responsibility, so long as you are not hurting him/her follow your own advice.
Don't let people tell you how you should raise it, because if you wanted to know you would have asked.
They all cry, they all keep you up, but it passes, enjoy being a mum and go with your own instinct. and there is no such thing as the perfect mum

That breastfed babies CAN have colic- and if you wean, it can and will get so much worse. Sometimes there are no easy or "quick" answers so ride it out. We experienced this with out son 11 years ago- and wish someone had told us. We now have a 15 month old who is still breastfeeding.

sleep when he baby sleep..have patience..the baby cries for ALOT of reasons other than just being hungry or needing a nappy change..

when my son was a newborn i'd say " come on..start crawling and talking already" when he started crawling and speaking (baby language ofcourse) ..i wish he'd stayed still more sometimes..but then i'd be like " come on..start talking proper words and walking" ..now he runs everywhere and talks non stop..and sometimes i wish he went back to being a newborn ..

haha ..i guess my point is..enjoy every moment you have with them..because they change and grow so quickly

"Sleep when the baby sleeps" is the wost advice ever! It's impossible - there's always laundry to do, house to clean, dinner to make. When the baby sleeps - that's the time to do the things you need to do. The best advice I can give you is, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Everything is a phase, they grow out of and a new one begins. When the new phase begins, you will wish you were back at the old one :) Enjoy every minute.

patience, you have to be very patient when it comes to almost anything, with my first i was always so frustrated when i couldn't figure out something like a diaper rash and what to use on it,lol
i'm now 6 months pregnant with my 4th and have learned you need to be incredibly patient when it comes to any situation, no matter how frustrated you may become and i really wish someone would have told me that before my first child was born.
