Okay, well sushi usually implies cold cooked rice and raw fish or fish eggs which can carry listeria bacteria which can harm the fetus (developmentally).

Soft cheeses such as Brie, Camembert, Blue Vein etc...have a high bacteria content and again can carry too much and harm the fetus.
'Hard' cheese like Tasty, Colby etc...are fine as they aren't matured as much and therefore safer in bacteria levels.

The types of fish you shouldn't eat are Shark, Swordfish, Tile fish, mackeral or any fish the predominantly eats other fish and therefore absorbs its mercury. Also the bigger and older the fish usually the more mercury it has in its system. Also fish caught in polluted waterways are a no-no. Fresh ocean fish are usually best. Salmon and canned tuna (no more than 6oz of tuna a week), catfish are all okay to eat but no more than 12oz a week.

Fish should still be eaten in pregnancy because you and the baby need the omega-3 fatty acids and other goodness found in fish. Salmon and tuna are best and can promote healthy fetal development.

The reason you should not eat sushi for example is because it is raw - and there is a high risk of harmful bacteria. All meat you eat during pregnancy should be properly cooked - this includes caviar (fish eggs) which should only be eaten if you are sure they have been pasteurized.

Fish with a very high mercury content include for example marlin and swordfish and you should avoid these completely (if you search online you will find plenty of websites with full lists). Some other fish with a high mercury content which can be had occasionally during pregnancy are for example tuna, sea trout and lobster.

The reason for not eating soft cheeses is also due to a risk of harmful bacteria such as listeria which can hurt the baby. You should avoid soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert and any moldy or blue veined cheeses like for example Stilton. Another cheese that is not recommended is Feta. Again, if you search online there are plenty of sites with full lists you can look at. You CAN eat these cheeses if they are cooked - i.e. in sauces or in quiches or so on.

Good luck

With my son i did no longer get any cravings. yet with my daughter I had important cravings for pineapples. I ate maximum of I have been given an exceptionally acidic/ disillusioned abdomen even with the undeniable fact that, so I had to stop myself. i'm 37 weeks pregnant now. i've got no cravings now (they seem to take place close to the initiating). I have been given cravings for MINT candies. So random, i comprehend?
