a 5 months ago my roof TV aerial fell off into my garden, i phoned up a company and explained what had happened they quoted me £30 for repair when the engineer arrived he said it would cost £80 for repair i refused to pay that and offered £40, he fixed the aerial, 2 months later the aerial fell off again but i was still recieving a signal so didn't worry about it until i found it in my garden yesterday, the thing is the aerial is covered in black tape which wasn't there before so i paid £40 for him to stick it on with tape, i phoned the company today and they said that i would have to pay more money to have the thing fixed i refused but the engineer reported (on the 1st visit)that my aerial was in bad shape (which it isn't) and that i would need to replace it so my gurantee isn't worth anything which means another £80, what can i do? i've tried speaking to the company and got nowhere and im not giving them anymore money please help

try a different company, report the company to trading standers, sticking an aerial with tape is bad, and paying a fee of forty pounds is daylight robbery.

They have charged you but failed to provide a satisfactory service. If it is a company, write to their registered office (you can get this from the Companies House website), tell them the problem and that you want the aerial repaired within 14 days or you will get another engineer to put it right and sue them for the cost. If it's not a company, you might find it difficult to find out the names of the people actually trading (they're supposed to tell you, but scammers don't). If you can find out, write a similar letter. When the 14 days runs out, get one of the better known aerial fixing companies to do the job (it will cost you more than £40) then take out a County Court summons. You can do this online starting at

Like the one answer report the company to the Better Business Bureau. Also take pictures. We had a problem with our water company charging to much on the water bill. Come to find out the guy read the meter wrong we called and the water company did make it right. The BBB can give you suggestion on what to do. If it is a company the BBB will investigate and they may have had other complaints with the same company

I'd buy a new one from B&Q or similar and get a neighbour to put it up for you. You can have the telly on and let him know when he's got the signal right. Then buy him a couple of cans of beer. I did and had a HD one erected for around £30.(including the beer).
Hope this helps and have a nice weekend.

Oh and name and shame them Bad news travels faster than good. Let everyone you wpeak to know what a bad company they are and are best left well alone!! Who are they so we can all avoid please.

first of ..I'm on your side ..but... no aerial would stop on any roof for five months if it was only stuck on with tape ..the guy must have done more than that ..second ..I'm amazed any company only charged £40 most aerial fitters would have charged around £100 they normally would not take the ladders off the van for that amount ..put it down to experience ..look in yellow pages

Put it down to experience.
Any company that puts an aerial up with sticky tape is a right cowboy outfit.

I always complain and compliment on it. It helps you vent because you can mention the companies name.

They follow up with you in forty eight hours to ascertain how the company responded.
