Hi Third P.

I think in some cases there is a difference between courage in men & courage in women.

I know I am generalizing, but in many cases, men will have "courage" to be macho. They will compete in foolish things just because of being dared to do so; women don't do that. Men want to see "who is better," so they will do dangerous things to see who has more "courage." You do not see women doing these things.

Women have courage in the face of real adversity. They have stronger survival skills which are honed from generations of courage. Studies show conclusively that women survive difficult times better than men because they have the courage to endure long-term suffering.

Women are the ones who have the babies. I think if men had to have the babies, there would be no over-population in the world, that's for sure :)

Aside from these broad generalities, I think courage can be equal in men & women. Some people have more courage than others; but it has nothing to do with gender. If a child fell through the ice & was drowning, a woman or a man would try to rescue him/her.

It more likely depends upon the situation, not the gender. There are people who have more courage in certain instances; while other people have courage in another type of situation. It just varies.

Also, one never knows what courage they have until they are put to the test. Life throws some very difficult situations at us; & we all handle things differently.

Here, again, studies show that women have more courage. For example, if there is a catastrophic illness in a family, men tend to leave the situation more often. Women tend to have the courage to go through the suffering & pain that is required.

In the end, when it comes to short-lived situations, courage is the same for men & women. However, when it comes to long-term endurance & suffering, women have more courage to stay with it, put up with it & survive it.

Peace.

I think that some things are viewed as different. Society has built itself to stereotype what is typically 'manly' and typically 'feminine' so that if a woman is a firefighter, they would be considered more courageous than a fireman, meanwhile if a man cries in public, that might be viewed as more courageous than if a woman does. Personally, I think that courage is different for each person, since each person has to overcome different things. For example, if someone who is afraid of heights decides to try a huge roller coaster to help cope with their fear, then that might be courageous. But if there is someone who loves roller coasters, and isn't afraid of them, that isn't courageous. Courage though, doesn't always have to be an act that completely defies a fear. It can just be saying something you thought you wouldn't, or doing something noble. Courage is mostly an inward strength.

Courage is courage... to me its about bravery. There are going to be physical limits to what men and women CAN actually do. But there again, there are going to be very wide variations within each gender.... a 5 ft 2" female of 7 stone isn't going to be able to physically do the same things are a 5 ft 10" female of 12 stone!

I think females have more of an instinct to "save" other people, ESPECIALLY when it comes to their kids.... I think it vary's a lot between each individual as well as between each gender. After all, what one person may find "easy" to do, someone else may struggle with endlessly. If something is easy for you, then it doesn't require much effort or courage. Whereas if you struggle with it and find it difficult it does involve a lot of effort and tremendous courage.

If (for instance) you suffer from agoraphobia going outside involves tremendous courage and bravery... where as MOST people wouldn't even think about it or consider it an act to courage. Same applys with things like "phobias". If you have a phobia about spiders, dealing with a daddy-long-legs takes courage... if you haven't got any fear of spiders you don't even think about it!!

Have a great day yourself!!

Men have bravado but that doesn't indicate courage. A woman's courage is a natural instinct. They are courageous through pain of all kinds and courageous through whatever life throws at them.

No; the courage that opposes the resistance of fear is something we all have as we all have fear. Strength to oppose fear is an individual experience and anger potential should not be confused with gender nor courage. Courage is a necessity for contradicting norms or cultural expectations and to obey self's own assessment for what is best to do.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

Silly Question:
(please ask something more interesting next time.)

The short answer is that men tend to short burst of physical courage easier, whilst women are more likely to persevere where prolonged mental strength/courage is needed.

[An exception to this might be defense or rescuing of children.
E.g. Maternal protection in wild animals, where mothers take on much stronger animals in defense of their cubs.]

Men have more testosterone making them more aggressive and more likely to do brave or silly things. Going off to war takes less courage (or effort) for a man than a lady.

Women also have less physical power making women more vulnerable to violence; thus men are more likely to bash their wives and women are less able to stand up to the violence.

The real test of courage is whether someone can go beyond their comfort zones or break their natural inclinations, or societal pressures.

E.g. young men perhaps want sex more than young ladies, since their hormones scream for action almost every moment, therefore staying celebrate for a young man requires more effort (or courage) than it does for a young woman.

Courage between Men and Women, yes, it differ, because some Women are more prone on enduring Pain, and can you imagine men having to endure the immense Pain, of Childbirth? Some Women do not have it easy, they have to work to support their Family, and look out for their welfare, alas, some men are free to do as they please when they end their hours of Work. I am stating a fact which I have lived it between my sisters Husbands. This words are not to undermine all Men, in particular, that is why I stated some Men.

In some ways, I think it does. It seems to me that men often have more courage in things requiring physical exertion, action, "taking control" of situations. They are less apt to count the cost in terms of pain or physical injury of their actions "in the moment". They are courageous against "foes".

Women's courage, to me, seems more that of endurance, staying the course and not breaking down from the trials they may face. They are courageous in circumstances.

Not to stereotype men or women by this as each has some measure of both but I see women as having more quiet courage and strength that endures.
