Can't speak for optometry school, as I'm not an optometrist. I looked into optometry, but it was just going to be way to expensive for the kind of income they make. I chose pharmacy because I could get done with less debt, and make as much, maybe a little more that an optometrist. And considering that optometrists can't perform laser surgery, I felt that the prospect of a 40 year career were not as solid as with pharmacy. Now, getting into either school is going to require you to have very good grades as an undergraduate (GPA 3.5+) and good entrance exam scores (PCAT in the ballpark of 85 or higher for pharmacy). The important thing is to be absolutely committed to whatever you choose because once you get in, you are going to be spending 15,000 a year for tuition at least and you really can't afford to change your mind. Good luck

I don't know the true numbers, but from what I hear is that there is a surplus of optometrists. It is starting for them to have problems finding jobs.
