I'm afraid it would engulf the entire globe. Because of this, it could only be envisioned in a science fiction novel. The size of the earth, its axis of rotation relative to the plane of its orbit, and its rotation on its axis definitely limits the size of tropical storms. I know because this was the work of my Ph.D.

It would cause widespread destruction and die out in a few hours. A hurricane needs continuous input of energy to keep going so it wouldn't last. The seas would be largely unaffected (there's a lot of water in the sea, only the surface would be affected). If you get some warning, stock up on supplies, find somewhere below ground level but not where flooding will get you, and wait it out. After that your ability to survive will be tested somewhat, crops gone, infrastructure damaged, you're on your own :)

Can you say, "Extinction!"? If you are referring to the Red Spot, it is larger than our entire planet.
