I notice that when I sit still for extended periods of time that I get a weird feeling behind my left knee cap. I normally notice it when I go to bed, but I don't believe I have RLS because it is only in that one area on my left leg. It doesn't hurt, it is just really annoying. It feels like someone is pressing their thumb really hard behind my kneecap. If I touch that area, the sensation goes away. It is like the nerves of my skin override the other signal. Lately I have just been placing a pillow on top so I can't feel it. Does anyone know what this is? When I get into bed it will last about 30 minutes to 1 hour. That is the only time I ever feel it.

It sounds like a bursa sac.

Or it could be a strained ligament.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it's very painful or if it lasts for several weeks. Then maybe see a doc.

It's always best to seek your doctors advice but as a person who suffers with sciatica and back pain I can give you a bit of advice to ease your troubles till you get an appointment. If it is truly sciatica it will usually cause pain, tingling, and numbness down your leg and into your feet and could be quite serious. Try Orthotics in your shoes....I got mine from Wal-mart. They have a machine that you step on and it tells you where your pressure points are....trust me they really really help. I also use a heating pad quite often and or a hot bath does wonders. But the truly most helpful thing was physical therapy, mine was so bad that I was on bed rest for 3 weeks and off work for 3 months....the therapy did wonders! Like I said you should go to your doctor and have them do a CT or MRI to find out for sure though.
