It all depends. Is it a new tank? Sometimes this does happen in "newer" tanks. It doesn't hurt anything, although it's not pretty.

Try increasing the light in the tank by a couple of hours a day and that tends to help a bunch. Here are a couple of articles that will also help you understand: http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/maintenance1/p/algaebrown.htm and http://www.aquariumpros.com/faqpro/algae_1.shtml#05200084 and http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/algae.htm#brown

Good luck!!! ;o)

Hey i am not very sure about the bleach solution but there is a simple way to keep the algae in control..
First stop any direct sunlight thats falling on your tank.. Incase of the internal lighting.. try a shade lighter... Algae will not survive in darkenss..
Further get a sucker fish.. these guys will make sure that the algae is under control...
Use chemicals and snails as the last option..
Chemicas as they are chemicals
and snails because they reproduce like crazy...

there is no bleaching agent to kill it off and the wast and bio is enough to bring it back . its vary common and a good algae sponge will remove it while the fish are in the tank!

Just get some Algae Buddies and pop them in your tank. Maybe some was stuck to the fish and they reinfected the water most likely. Unless you used bleach or something and soaked EVERYTHING, you probably didn't get it all.

it is most likely the position of the tank some things like sunlight and heat changes cause these sorts of things move it somewhere else and see what happens PS it was a problem that i had so try it

Did you use bleach? Sounds like you didn’t manage to kill all the fungi. Try using 4:1 (water/bleach) dilution with soapy water and soak any other things that go inside the tank for at least 15 minutes in that same solution.

After a complete wash down, let it air dry and rinse with same dilution ratio of water/vinegar to neutralize any bleach residue then see if that works.

Good luck.

It might be too much light or your cleaner fish aren't doing their job very well.

your water is becoming stale, a breading ground for microorganisms to live, eat and breed - that's the algae. go to a pet store and talk to the folks there, they'll know how to fix it.
