I'm finding it hard to keep the enthusiasm up. They start talking about it October and everyone has their lights up by the end of November. We haven't been able to do much for Christmas this year and can't even afford to buy presents until my partner gets paid on the 21st so I can't really get into the Christmas spirit. I just wish we could "leave" it till the week before Christmas before we start all the planning. The fact that the hype starts so early means that I'm sick of it by the 25th December.

Absolutely.
Ban Christmas until December...
I could cope with four weeks of it, but Christmas carols playing over the supermarket sound system in late September is ridiculous.
And any Christmas spirit I might have had has long since evaporated by the time the *actual* holiday appears.
A few years back I noticed a big sign in one shop offering a "Festive Ordering Service": I went up and asked if I could order a couple of pints or pounds of festive, as I appeared to have run out.
(It was only for advance orders of party food).
This in the UK. I gather that until recently Thanksgiving in the USA used to be a bar to the forward spread of Christmas, but that it is now in some danger of being "swallowed up" as the shops and advertisments are already running full-tilt at Christmas by then.

Absolutely, its starts sometimes as early as end of August, when many people are still on Summer holiday mode, why can't we have a couple of weeks even say mid December when all the decs go up in the shops and perhaps then people wouldn't be so bored or frustrated with it, i know that's what i would do. And i would at every turn not have so called Christmas songs in shops, every time i hear Wizard or some other cheese ditty i leave and on TV its worse.

Usually I am, but this year it's pretty much passed me by, other than a horrendous shopping trip last weekend. I think having a 5-month old baby and all the work that's entailed has distracted a bit. Also, my mum died just before Christmas last year so there are a few sad memories around.

I'm pretty cranky about it between October and Thanksgiving. After that, I kind of resign myself to the fact that they're going to overly promote it and overly commercialize it.
Luckily, the radio station that I listen to at work is pretty good about keeping the Christmas music to a minimum. In fact ... I haven't heard any Christmas music on that station this year!

Yes, I am totally fed up with it already.
By the time the 25th arrives, I'm looking forward to getting rid of the decorations which happens on the 26th if I have no visitors.
I am not going to do a thing about it until after my birthday on the 19th.
If I hear Jingle-bloody-Bells once more, I think I am going to scream!

I agree. Btw, what makes me feel even more sick is the red-and-white Santa Claus, when he's originally green. Coke changed his coat for its promotional purposes lots of years ago.
Being that I'm against Coke, everytime I see a Santa Claus I renew my "frustration".
Luckily, there are some places where schools, authorities and so on reintroduced the original Green Santa Claus, such as in Denmark

For the lucky ones, Christmas time is a time of year for love, good wishes, thinking of times past with family and old friends. Irrespective of religious beliefs and views, spread goodwill and love to all.
Seasons greetings to all.

I don't think of it so much as 'Christmas' and shopping and the music - I see it as family-time and I LOVE it and I always will!
