Human beings tend to overreact toward negative things. Look at politics or the news.
Politicians talk about reforming the education system for the children - little response.
Any fear mongering tactics bring a "huge" response!
Terrorism, Iraq, Immigration, teachers having sex with kids, violent video games, Hello Kitty, etc.......

jerry is right- it is simply human nature.
a person could treat a person like royalty, but one wrongdoing will never be forgotten no matter how hard they try- the memory of it will stick in their head.
