1.2 x 10^13 x -3.3 x 10 ^-4 = - 3.96 x 10 ^9

Now let us divide that by the other number

-3.96 x 10^9 / 7.2 x 10^15 = -0.55 x 10^-6

To express it as an exponent, we need to write 0.55 as 5.5 x 10^-1 and so we get the final answer as

-5.5 x 10^-7

The answer given is wrong.

(1.2 x 10^13)(-3.3 x 10^-4) / 7.2 x 10^15
=-(1.2 * 3.3 /7.2) * 10^(13-4-15)
=-0.55 * 10^(-6) = -5.5 * 10 ^( -7)

1.2(-3.3)/7.2=-0.55
10^13x10^4/10^15=10-6
combine
-0.55x10^-6=-5.5x10^-7
