For years, people have pondered on this and wondered what “life” and the purpose of it is. Dictionaries give meanings like the course of existence of an individual. But does that really define what life is actually all about?
Life is not something that can be found in a dictionary. Life is the moments that we share, the emotions that we feel. It is something more complex than what can be described in ten words in a large dictionary. It’s about the complex emotions we have, like love, grief, guilt, and joy. It is not about having all the happiness in the world and having a perfect world, but it is about the small good things strung together to make something beautiful; for we cannot have a taste of happiness unless we have also experienced sadness. This may not be the whole meaning of life, or it may not be the meaning of life at all, but these moments are what make up life, and that is why they are important to life.
There are several questions related to “What is the meaning of life?” These include “Why are we here?” “Where did life begin?” and “What is valuable in life?” These answers can have both philosophical and scientific answers. Of course, the philosophic and scientific answers may join somewhere, but several people have completely different theories for the both of them. Let us begin with “Why are we here?” Scientists may say that we are the dominant species, that are here to create and invent, but this is not necessarily true from a philosophical standpoint. What if we are not actually controlling ourselves, and there is a person writing out our story for us? What if we are NOT actually the dominant species, but one of the millions of intelligent life forms throughout the never-ending web of universes? Any of these could be a possibility. Suppose that the scientists who make all of these predictions do not actually exist themselves! There is an endless amount of theories questioning our existence. How do I know there is a purpose to life? I don’t necessarily. But to us, there is a purpose. As a part of the greater picture, there may be absolutely no purpose at all. But as long as we are real to each other, we should also have purposes, even if it is for the sake of having a purpose. OUR purpose in life is simple, live a happy life and hope that everything turns out okay. And though we may be an experiment, and our purpose is for testing to a greater life form, that doesn’t or shouldn’t matter to us.
Let us proceed to the second question: where DID life begin? Some scientists say that there was a single cell that reproduced and then created different life forms, and through that we exist today. But there are always more philosophical views. What about creationism? Can it be that God created the world, be it Allah, Iris, or Brahma? Can these all be the same person each under a different name? Even evolution, which is so widely accepted as true, can be counted as one of the many theories of philosophy. If we base our beliefs off of what we KNOW to be true, we should have no beliefs, because nothing can be proved as true.
The third question among this list is “What is valuable in life?” This is a variety of things, and can be different for each person. For some, it is pure happiness that counts. But there are deeper values beyond their happiness. What makes them happy? Perhaps they have recently fallen in love. Maybe they have just given birth to a child, and have realized the joys of being a parent. To some, happiness may just be money, though this usually is not the case. Maybe to some, it is waking up every morning and looking forward to doing something they love; their job. To some people who are not as fortunate as us, maybe it is them simply being alive and healthy. Maybe for some, it is simply having a place to live. What is valuable is all that makes up happy and all that we are thankful for. Things life family, friends, school, living in a free country, happiness, are all valuable. But along with those things, there are other things that are valuable, which not all of us notice. These things are grief, hurt, losing someone, and everything negative. For how could we know happiness if we do not know grief? How could we no hurt if we did not know health? Does losing a family member not bring those of us that are alive still closer than ever?
It seems that I have given myself more questions than answers, more doubts than confirmations, but that is what I am trying to say…that we can never by absolutely sure about anything which we assume to be true. The meaning of life is not just a definition found in a dictionary; it is a very complicated mixture of all that we have ever seen.

The "good" or spiritual meaning of life is: To love and be loved. The sarcastic or assenine (is that how it's spelled) is: Money, houses, cars. People who believe in the latter think that everything else derives from these three things; even your love life and family.
