There are examples in the homosexual community of people who embrace the lifestyle beyond a simple sexual preference. Sometimes these people are overly vocal about that lifestyle, which makes them look almost like they're embracing the non-conformity aspect, rather than simply expressing their inner selves.
Those type of people leave a lasting impression, and it gives the idea to some people that their sexuality is a conscious choice of lifestyle, not a preference determined by other factors.

So some folks would like us to believe and accept, and especially Religious people -- They are so full of disinformation and hatred for us! -- The Bible has been used as a weapon against LGBT people by Christian fundamentalists, and they work as hard as they can to ensure that Gay people are demoralized and persecuted enough to fit their stereotypes.
There is absolutely no choice involved -- If there was, what kind of person would consciously choose a life which must be kept secret? The chance of being disowned and evicted by the parents? Losing their job? Being constantly ridiculed? Not to mention being a prime candidate for hate crime. . .
So, with all this as a given, who would really choose to be gay?

I do believe people are born with homosexual tendencies or what ever you want to call it.
I also believe it is a choice to outwardly live as a gay person. Everything you do in life is a choice.
I have chosen to act on my bisexual tendencies. That was a choice I made, knowing full well how main society feel about bi men.
Others choose to act on their homosexual tendencies and live a gay or lesbian life that makes them happy.
Some people have homosexual feeling or tendencies and choose not to act on them. If there was truly no choice involved, these people would not exist.
Do not get me wrong, I am not saying anyone should have to hide their self or should be ashamed in any way. I am just saying that every gay person has chosen to live the life they have and has done so with full knowledge of how society feels.

Nature versus nurture is always a tough debate. Combine that with the fact that human sexuality is more complex than the gay/straight issue, and you've got quite a mess.
I believe that the distribution of sexual preferences probaly hasn't changed much throughout the ages. In any given culture you'll have people compelled by their nature toward behaviors that society frowns upon. I also believe that because it is a continuum, there are those on the fringes that can accept the minority part of their nature that allows them to be "normal".
When you consider the sexuality of the ancient Greeks, the men of Papua New Guinea , or even our own prison system, you have to admit that there is some choosing going on.

I'm so glad that so many straight people have all the answers about being gay. I feel so enlightened right now!
NOT!
I'm a gay man and I resent that fact that people that have absolutely NO idea what they are talking about insist they have all the right answers. When exactly did all you straight people decide to be straight? What day did you sit down and say to yourself..."I'm a straight person and I want the opposite sex." Yes you choose which person of the opposite sex to be with, but you still always choose the opposite sex. Why? Do you sit and ponder 'why' you want the opposite sex? No, it's just natural for you just like it is for gay people being with the same sex.
BTW, there are not really lots more gay people, many have decided not to continue to hide from who we are. Therefore, more visibility of the LGBT community is present.

You've got to remember, love is a VERY powerful motive. To you believe that it is forced upon these people to become homosexual? Unlikely.
Majority of the time, they're happy in their current relationship status and that's all that matters to them. They make the decision themselves.
You could go on and say, why would someone choose to become a suicide bomber? At the end of the day, we have a mind and we have a many decisions to make. That's simply they're decision and I respect that for all it's worth.

people choose digusting and discriminated against lifestyles all the time, coprophages choose their lifestyle too. Its a choice, plain and simple, often as a result of an urge to " challenge and rebel" against society as a whole.

if people chose to be gay, there wouldn't be any gays. because i agree, who would chose to be spat on.
if its chosen its mostly bisexuals and mostly just girls, they like kissing for attention, thats all though.
i think people believe that people chose to be gay because they don't actually think about it on a deeper level. that and bad parenting.
apparently serotonin effects your sexuality, and you cant control your serotonin, so you cant chose to be gay.
if someone thinks being gay is chosen then they are obviously close minded people.
and i disagree with that guy who says he doesn't see any gay babies running around, people grow up in a life that says you have to like the opposite sex, when heaps of people find out they like the same sex at the age of just eight, when you start to think for yourself. besides your mind doesn't command you to start being attracted to people until you reach a certain age, but the sexuality is always there.

They choose to have the potential of having problems because that is who they are. Many feel that they can not be hetero, so why fight it? Besides in many cities Toronto, San Francisco...etc, people are very understanding.
