Why can't I connect to Diablo II?

I haven't played it in over a year, and recently reinstalled it on my computer. Obviously I'm not having internet problems, so what gives?

Did the patch thing come up? The loading of the patch takes awhile on dial up. Your characters are probably gone. If you haven't played in 90 days they are history. Your account might be gone too.
