be a larger obstacle to getting elected, than hilary being a woman or barack being black?
our country is sadly so devoutly religious and protestant that it seems religion is more important than gender or race.

I know our country was founded on a heavily religious background, and in no way did I mean that its sad that our country cares that the president is religious...What I meant was that its sad that our country cares that our president is specifically ONE religion, and ONE denomination of a religion...no matter what tolerance we proclaim, we have never have a jewish, hindu, or non-christian president (and aside from kennedy, non-WASP), and I find this to be disheartening

Yes. From what I hear on the news, it seems to be getting in the way. By the way, didn't everyone know he was a Mormon before? Why does this seem to be new news? It's like the media had a slow news day, and needed to come up with something to stir the pot. As to your comment about the fact that it's sad about our country being devoutly religious and seemingly more interested in religion than gender or race...I've got one thing to say about that statement (and it may be more than a mouthful). This country was built on people with a strong belief in God. They came here to worship without hindrance. They had a strong moral code (most of which is sadly lacking in our current society). Because of the loose morals of a former president, many have lost the last thread of respect they had for any government officials. And many think it's okay for a president to do whatever he/she wants as long as no one got hurt. Because of the lack of moral character, that hurts everyone. That hurts the whole country. What a person believes IS more important that gender or race. If you've got no foundation to stand on, your house of cards will come crashing down. You'll be tossed about by every change of the wind, flip-flopping on things that you once professed to be true. In fact, you can tell a lot about a person just by listening to their conversation. A person's faith is important because it links them to something higher than themselves. It gives them an anchor that keeps them stable. It makes them accountable for their actions. And if it doesn't do that, then something is wrong in their lives. That's why so many people are down on organized religion. Because those who say they have faith don't act like it. I truly believe that it was the faith of our forefathers that built this nation into the place that it is. And it's the lack of that same faith that will bring it down. That's why things are going downhill the past several years, my friend. People that say they have faith aren't practicing it in their daily lives. Okay, I'm getting long-winded. Sorry. This happens to be a very important thing to me. I don't normally get involved in politics. But I do defend the faith. While I don't know a lot about Mormons, or many of the other religions around our country, I do know that many of the other faiths have a moral code that they teach. Whether or not Mr. Romney will make a good president will remain to be seen in the coming months. One last thing...what does gender or race have to do with religion or anything else? We are what we are. I tend to look more at a person's character than who or what they are. It's more revealing. <*)))><

Vs Hillary, I doubt it would really matter. The people that would not vote for Romney under normal circumstances because he is Mormon will come out in droves to vote for whoever is running against Hillary, ie, they will choose what they see as the lesser of two evils. Those same people would mainly be the ones who would not vote for a woman so gender will not make a difference regardless. If it were someone other then Hillary, I believe many of those same people would simply not vote so Romney would be hurt if the Dems put up someone other then Hillary. Again, the people worried about gender are not likely to vote for any Democrat as that is mainly the socially conservative wing of the Republican Party.

for the comparable reason human beings adversarial Obama with the aid of fact of his "questionable" faith. human beings tend to be afraid of what they do no longer understand so as that they without delay anticipate it somewhat is undesirable. like it or no longer our us of a is a catholic us of a and a few catholics could additionally believe a Mormon in capability might attempt and alter that. I additionally wager that Romney's fighters might use that concern to sway votes. Politics is an unsightly activity and the regulations have become further and further blurred each election.

Being a mormon yes.
Hilary's obstacle isn't that she is a woman, its that she is a puppet for the same people running the country now. We need some fresh blood in there.
Obama...I don't have a problem with him being black. In fact I like him best out of the candidates so far but his inexperience is a concern.
I am white and not religious, and typically conservative.

American's over emphasis on BS such as Romney's religion just show now America have degraded. Until I learned more about Ron Paul and Romney's recent performance, Romney was actually my favorite candidate.
I couldn't care less if a Presidential candidate is a Satanist as long as I agree with his platform.

Why do people get so worked up over something they have no control over? Earth to you: The president is elected by the electoral college which consists of delagates. He or she is not elected by the popular vote! Bush didn't "steal" the election from Gore, the delagates chose Bush over Gore.

Romney won't win. PERIOD. Specifically because he is a MORMON.
The Mormon Prophets all say that their word is from the Lord, and supercedes any law by man.
You can be a good Mormon, or a good President, but you can't be BOTH.

Mitt Romney was the worst Governor Massachusetts ever had. I for one will never vote for a member of a cult...Ask anyone except another Mormon. They are indeed a cult.
