It will not hurt you, BUT there is a slight possibility that you could still get pregnant if you aren't on birth control (it takes a while for the little guys to swim up to the egg, and if you do it towards the end of your period they could still be in there by the time you ovulate...very slim chance because your body's timing has to be off of the norm but still a chance, and of course your period doesn't offer any protection against STD's.
Other than that it just depends on whether you and the guy are both comfortable with it. Just wear a condom unless you're on birth control and in the kind of relationship (i.e. married) where you know STDs won't be a factor. He may want to wear one regardless if you're bleeding. And do it on a towel you can bleach later.

To everyone on here saying it is messy: It doesn't have to be. There is a product called INSTEAD that is a disposable diaphragm shaped thing that keeps the menstrual flow out of the way. It can get a little dry during intercourse, therefore sometimes needing a lubricant, which is messy itself, but it does not have to be red messy. and not get pregnant? no. It's not likely to get pregnant but it's possible.
Now why one would want to have sex on their period is beyond me. I've seen some gross stuff, but ugh. Besides with sex during period you have a higher chance of infection occuring. You also should use a condom everytime with sex anyhow, not just to guard against pregnancy but STDs too. Only a condom can greatly minimize the risk of an STDs, no other form of birth control, except no sex at all, protects against STDs

It is safe, but if you mean safe from risk of pregnancy then no time is ever 100% safe. It is messy though, so just do it in the shower.
All of these people saying no are uninformed.

However, being a person with intelligence, the answer of best judgment is, No.
That's like taking a math test when you're drunk, been up for days, and after a little sniff of cocaine.
Possible, hell yeah.

If you are talking about physically safe, Yes it is. But probably a little messy. May want to do it in the shower. If you are talking about getting pregnant, NO! You can still get pregnant when you are having your period. I know someone who did.

Yes, it's safe, although there is a really really small chance of getting pregnant if you have unprotected sex while menstruating. It's definitely messy, and not everyone's preference, but some people don't mind it.
