The little girl in the red coat - Schindlers List

You don't even get to see her actual death - just a pile of sadness that, because of the sheer scale of it all, you don't even really notice. Least not until part of a little red coat catches the corner of your eye.

After having this little girl flit randomly from scene to scene, with us knowing the nasty possibilities and her total innocence to it all, in the end we are left to our imaginations as to her final moments. But still it's a harrowing scene that really haunts the soul for a long long time after the movie ends. A memory that nags the conscience all the more for our ignorance of it in the first place.

The ones that got me using more than 5 kleenex were:

The ending of Where the Red Fern Grows when the dog dies.

The ending of Titanic when she drops the necklace overboard then dies inher sleep. (but it was a happy death)

When Marcus dies at the end of Gladiator and is greeted by his family.

Plague Dogs, at the very end when they both drown for the last time.

Oh and wait! When both the wolf Two Socks and Cisco the horse were killed in Dances With Wolves. Animal deaths hit me harder than people deaths.

The recent saddest death scene I've seen was when the little girl died in the movie, "Bridge to Tirrabithia." It made me feel sad because she was just a child...

Every scene where an animal dies.

E.g. in 'The Bear' (1988), where the mother of the bear cub got killed by falling stones. Her baby is sitting beside her dead body for a long time, not understanding why she doesn't move any more.

When Ratso Rizzo in "Midnight Cowboy" died, I felt so sad like never before, I even cried for a few minutes which RARELY happens when I watch a movie.

I don't know why but i found the 'death scene' (if you could call it that, it's more the dead scene) in the notebook really sad

Most definitely the end of The Mist.

Heartwrenching. I couldn't even move for the entire time the credits rolled.
