He gets angry for the smallest reasons, I hate to walk away but if I try talking to him, it just makes things worse.I love him, but I just dont know what to do anymore. He was diagnosed as bi-polar last year, and was taking meds, but it made him a zombie, and he couldnt afford them anymore.

He will not go to the doctor, and currently he is mad at me, so he is not talking to me either.

he needs to go back to the doctor and see if they can give him something else, and something that is affordable. i know from experience that dealing with someone that is bi-polar is like living with a time bomb. you have to walk on egg shell all the time. you never know whats going to spark them off. he needs to get on some type of medication or you will eventually have to leave. when you do that then you don't know what he might do. its hard to deal with a bi-polar person. Good Luck!

Let him come to you. If he's not talking to you, then stay away from him and let him stew. Gather some close friends or family and confront him as an intervention - he must get help. He must go back on the meds. If he won't, then please walk away. Anger can be dangerous. It might take you walking away for awhile for him to realize what he has to lose if he doesn't get his problem under control.

You should get in touch with organizations that deal with bi-polar dysfunctions and get more information on how to cope with a loved one who will not help themselves. Psychiatrists often deal with these patients. Research other forms of medications...ones that maybe will not make him so zombie-like, and present them to him. Explain to him, or have a professional attend the intervention to do so for you, that this problem is not going to go away and it IS affecting his relationships.

Good luck.

This might be a bit of a male - female problem. When I get upset with something or we argue, my wife needs to talk about it immediately until she feels it's resolved, and I just want some alone time, and to cool off. So if she stays there and continues to talk about the issue, I just get more mad. After 20 years of marriage, I think she has finally learned in the past year that when I say I do not want to talk about something at the moment, that I really mean it.

Not sure if that applies to your situation, but good luck.

There are many different meds for people with bi-polar. If that one is doing weird things to him he needs to talk to his doc. He just need to find the one best for him. It is very important for him to get the right meds, because it can lead to much worse things. I used to work with a guy with bi-polar and if he didn't take his medication he would get very angry for no reason whatsoever and at one point after a week without he tried to commit suicide. Bi-polar is very serious and need to be treated for his sake.

my brother is bi-polar and he needs more than medicine. therapy helps a LOT. when my husband gets angry it helps if i talk in a quiet, gentle voice and ask him to quite down and talk in a normal tone. yelling definitely makes things worse. talking things out makes things better, but you can only do that if you calm the angry person down first.

Perhaps the meds were not appropriate. Get a 2nd opinion.
