Why bother to have gun control and ban guns?

Because a gun doesn't killed that many people.

Why not ban airplane? airplane killed 3,000 people in NYC during 9/11.

Well?

Is this question for real? It's all about intent obviously. The purpose of a gun is to kill. The purpose of an airplane is to get people from point A to point B. Heart ailments are the number 1 killer in North America - why don't we ban hearts? yea, that sounds totally logical.

As for your added question - guns weren't around forever and before them, neither were such massive rates of murder. The Chinese invented gun powder for fireworks, the Europeans took that technology and turned it into something made for killing. Since then, warfare took on a whole new meaning. To kill from far away at little risk to oneself, that's the ultimate weapon right there (of course this evolved over time but in the beginning, it's the ultimate weapon). Of course if there were no guns, people would have to revert back to old ways of killing: knives. It's unlikely they would use bombs unless their suicidal because when you're fighting from a street level, there's more risk to the potential killer as well. Now, knives can work at close range (with risk still) but how many killings do you think there would be from long range knife killings? It's near impossible.

What other weapon can you target and kill without risk to yourself?

WELL! In that case we better ban all SUV's on the road. I hear all the time on the news were an SUV hit a small car and killed someone. They NEVER say a PERSON had an accident, only that an SUV had one.

Today an SUV ran off the road...last night an SUV lost control and vered into...

We have airplanes, SUV's, cars, and GUNS for a purpose. When they are misused, people die. Your simplton premise of attempting to ban guns under the premises that airplanes kill is idiotic. I love discourse (you WILL have to look that word up...we'll wait) on any number of controversial things but silly premises to START such a discourse are not worth my time.

Maybe we should ban base ball bats, knives, and how 'bout THIS idea, "since guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people...why not BAN people?"

I say we START with YOU.

WELL!

We should also ban doctors, they kill far more people than guns do and why we are at it we might as well ban cars too.

All we are asking is for reasonable regulations on airplanes, cars and doctors. We should just register them and perhaps do a ban on the doctors who look scary. Then after a few months we can confiscate them.

If it saves just one life it is worth it and what about the children; I thought I would throw that in.

well that does make sense but people use airplanes to travel all around the world - business trips, family vacations etc. however, more people are killed by guns than airplanes. We know that a single crash does about 3000 kills to passengers but the crime rate in U.S...... people die by guns everyday guns is the real weapon not the airplane

I need to add something here. You are making a good point. We can't ban something just because it causes problems. Banning guns won't solve anything. You'll have more robberies at knifepoint. Criminals will find a way.You can't change that. I don't see how anyone in America can honestly support banning firearms. The only reason we have a right to have our own opinions here is because a number of people that owned their own guns stood up against their government. America exists because of the people's right to bear arms. Guns are used for more good then many people believe. The news just loves to spread the bad, and ignore the good.

Air travel is statistically the safest way to travel.

The 9-11 incident killed 3000 yes, but guns on the streets kill even more people coz it just goes on and on.

Because a gun wont carry millions of people all across the globe... A gun wont allow people to visit their loved ones overseas, fly to see their daughter give birth to her first child, travel to a new state for an amazing job...

In my opinion, if NO BODY had guns, there would no longer be a need to HAVE a gun. *shrug*

The usual purpose of an airplane is transportation.
The usual purpose of a gun is death.
Do you get it?
Follow your logic and you would have everyone with a nuclear weapon.
