Unfortunately it is NOT TRUE that bright red blood in your bowel movement is always relatively benign. Although "black blood" stools are almost always serious, bright red blood can also be a symptom of something major wrong. Ulcerative colitis comes to mind -- it is (unlike bowel cancer) fairly common in young people, and the profuse bleeding is often the first symptom (not, alas, the last).
The general rule is that a little blood on the paper is not a cause for alarm, but enough to turn the water pink is. Since you had red water, you should get to the doctor (or ER if you don't have a doctor) ASAP. It's not anything that can't wait until morning, but don't let the doctor's staff put you off until five weeks from Thursday either. You should have a medical check of some kind within a few days, sooner if you start to feel really weak or otherwise sick. That much blood could come from a massive hemmrhoid, but you really must check that it's nothing worse and you don't want to lose so much blood for long anyway.

Fresh blood would suggest a ruptured hemorrhoid - or maybe an anal fissure. Constipation is a common cause of these sort of problems - adding fibre and lots of water to your diet will help.
If the blood was from your stomach, it would be black/grainy, and if it was from your bowel/colon, you probably wouldn't see it at all (it just mixes in with the feces). If you have risk factors for colon cancer, or the problem persists, I would suggest seeing a doctor.

Seeing blood in your faeces means that there has been a rupture of a blood vessel in your intestines or anus.
At best, it's a hemmahoid in the anus that tore open when you were eliminating your faeces. However, that is not the only cause for blood in the faeces.
There is also a possibly be a rupture or cut along the inside of your intestines/anus. This risk is increased with hard, dry and large faeces caused by low fibre diets, and of course, anal sex.
I'd probably rule out bowel cancer, your age is too low for it to occur. Giving you one less thing to worry about.
To minimise the risk of infections, go see your doctor as soon as possible. The longer it is left untreated, the higher the chance for it to complicate into a nasty, and possibly untreatable, infection.

The same thing happened to my husband a while back...it was little polyps that burst causing the blood. Doc said it wasn't serious. But, anytime you poop blood you're supposed to get checked by a doc, because it could be serious. Just want you to know to get it checked but don't freak out because it could be something simple. And, also, don't blow it off...my husband put off going to see a doc and just worried about it for a long time.

Since it was red, you might have hemroids or a cut somewhere down there. It could be internal bleeding.... which would be an emergency, but if that was the case the blood would be very dark and almost black since it would have been mixed with your poop. You are probably fine though.

Sometimes that just happens. Like you could have a small tear or something especially if it was a hard stool and it'll be ok. Constipation can be linked to this too.
Could also be haemorrhoids or something serious like bowel cancer though, I suggest mention it to your parents in the morning and see a doctor if it happens again.

How old are you?
And are you male?
Don't freak out, most likely it won't be an emergency
But DO go see a doctor
Colon cysts and tumors are so common now and so easy to fix if caught early
If you get feelin bad tonight, or this happens more than one more time, take yourself down to the ER and tell them what's going on

I'm sorry to say this, but it's probably hemmerhoids. Basically all it takes is one hard bowel movement to slice open the many veins in there. Then, after that, you will probably see blood for at least a few bowel movements. You'd think it only happens to older folk, but it's actually very common.

Did you strain too much? It's possible you caused a tear. But from the way it sounds, it seems like it was a lot of blood, If that's the case, you should see the doctor a.s.a.p...that can't be good.

If you were bleeding from inside your stomach or intestines the blood would be in the faeces and showing up black (occult blood) so this is not serious and is something around your anus. Go to the doctor to have it checked. With blood that is fresh it is likely to be a hemorrhoid.
