Considering the fact that they have done nothing about illegal immigration after all these years, that guns were confiscated during Katrina, and Republicans in charge have made Clinton look like a fiscal conservative--aren't they really out of touch with America's concerns and values? Especially when they STILL rather talk about relatively petty, trifling subjects rather than focusing on our tanking economy (inflation, gas prices, Chinese imports, outsourcing, etc.) and the two exhorbitantly costly wars that we are currently embroiled in?

"Read my lips: No new taxes"
"What recession?"

Sounds like a flashback: 1992!

Like father like son!

Let's not be too hard on them. Bush proposed a plan that was flatly rejected by the Democrats in Congress, even though it was a very liberal plan. Gun confiscation was done by Democrats, who controlled New Orleans but also refused to follow evacuation procedures. And Clinton allowed Citicorp to skew accounting principles that then protected Enron, and hid the fact that a recession started in 1996.

And if you're talking about the last cyber "debate," everyone knows it was a set-up.

And no, I'm not a registered Republican.

That's on CNN , not the candidates . CNN was too timid to ask about more important issues . I assume that every sort of question was submitted to YouTube , but CNN passed on them . They're competing with Fox , and don't want to lose viewers. Also, they're afraid (seemingly) of being criticized for "liberal media elite ....yadayadayada" . If the Dittoheads, O'Reillyites, Savagers , & the rest are upset, they go to ( & after) the advertisers .
The impending give-away, er.... sale (cheap!) of the digital airwaves probably factors in . Can't risk resentment (& payback?) in the current , and possible next administrations . ( & Who owns the network ? - The R candidates fellow travelers!)

Abortion, immigration, taxes, guns and religion are all important issues. I suppose they could have talked about computers or video games or current fashions in clothes, but the purpose of political debates is to talk about political issues.
I am familiar with the war in the mid east but am unaware of a second one. Did we finally invade Canada and nobody told me?

Not necesarily out of touch with their constituents; who happen to be fundamentalist nuts (notice I did not say Christians), macho cowboys, and greedy people who want to wage wars but have other people pay for them. They cannot talk about issues that intelligent people care about because they are sadly lacking in those areas. Such as how to fix the economy, how to really deal with terrorism, health care, social security, and energy. So they create issues such as flag burning and gay marriage.

Those Republicans are small minded and can only discuss what they are familiar with. They are uneducated and uninformed about global politics, energy, economics, and budgets. While they whine away about stem cell research our kids are all going to be poisoned by made in China toys at Christmas because of the trade deficit with China. They can't see the forest for the trees! Why tackle global geo-eco-political issues when you can argue about whether it's Huckabee or Romney who believes in the real god? It is a confederacy of dunces trying to have a party while war rages on, we are being sold goods that are poisoning us, and our country is in debt to several countries who could ultimately become our enemies. Their pea sized brains can only take in so much!

The values you describe in your paragraph there describe to a T today's liberal, and since the pendulum seems to be swinging back toward liberalism, I'd say the Republicans you're talking about are very much in touch, wouldn't you?
