You may want to see a doctor.
Does it last longer then 7-8 days?
Is It VERY HEAVY? Or are you often Spotting?
Are you Under Weight or Over Weight?
Are you under A lot of stress?
Some women take longer for their cycle to become normal, but sometimes it can be a sign of Thyroid or Hormone level imbalances which can cause many other issues. They are easily treated (and often with things like the pill, I had friends that would bleed for a month straight!!! They medically HAD to go on the pill because aside from the diaper rash from the pads we're losing to much from their bodies and were in a lot of pain from cramps and Anemia). Make sure they rule that out, but it could just be age or who you are. Many people who are over/under weight have problems with this. But lack of body fat can stop the flow. Hormones are wild even in your early 20's sometimes.
It could also be stress.
Some Women have more regular then others (mine I can luckily do almost to the hour, but not everyone gets that, Everyone is different.)
Do you often change female friends? Other Girls Cycle will have an effect one you. The only times mine ever change was when I was in beauty School. Our Cycles some how change based on other Women around us sometimes. It's weird sounding but believe me.
But "taking care of your needs" does nothing to change your period.
Talk to a Doctor, there is probably a simple solution that will make you healthier.
:) Goodluck

Totally normal. Women's periods can still be irregular into their 20's (oh fun! lol). I'm 23 and mine can still be almost a week early or late, and be shorter or longer, ugh. Masturbation has nothing to do with it, but things like lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and stress can mess it up. Overexercising and not eating enough can even cause your period to stop until you put back on enough body fat. Being a virgin has nothing to do with it either. I wouldn't get on the pill b/c that can open a whole pandora's box of new problems (breast soreness, nausea, MOODINESS, acne or facial hair growth depending on the brand, "weight gain" (which is mostly just water retention), vericose veins (I got a couple after only a year of being on Yasmin before I stopped taking it)... Plus the periods you get on the pill aren't even real, it's just "withdrawal" bleeding from the pills you take w/out hormones. So you'd become dependent on this fake cycle, and once you went off the pill your period would be all screwy while your body readjusted to being w/out the pill again.
Basically, don't worry too much, it's normal for some girls/women to have irregular periods when you're still young and still growing. Some women never get periods that they can predict to the day. Facts of life suck haha.

Masturbation has nothing to do with it chika;) And never fear, in the early years of one's period, it's normal for it to be more or less irregular. It should straighten out as you get older. If you don't want to wait you can start taking birth controll pills. If your parents aren't so liberal or can't be convinced, there is surely a planned parenthood in your area- I used to get mine from one when I was younger. You should not have to pay for them if you go that route. The benefits of the pill are excellent- your cramps are lessened, your cycle regulated, and you will be less likely to get ovarian cancer, plus when you want to get pregnant someday, they say you will have an easier time if you have been on the pill since your cycle has been kept regulated. Birth control pills are in lower doses these days so the related risks are minimal compared to how things used to be. My mom told me she used to have terrible problems getting yeast infections and stuff like that when she was on the pill. But that was in the 80s and it took a lot of convincing her that things are better in this day in age. Overall, I think it would be a smart idea to start taking the pill. Just don't forget to take it:)

Masterbation won't change the time or flow of it, so don't worry about that.
If you're on some medications (respiratory, or for epilepsy, etc.) that can affect periods, as well as if you do very heavy workouts (a lot of Olympic trainees actually stop their periods).
Going on the pill can keep you regular, it's certainly something to consider.

mine have always been this way too, I took the pill to try to make it regular but found that the hormone level made me sick and gave me painful periods that were way to heavy. I think many woman have this problem.and find that after they have children the body finally becomes regular.. and no masturbation has absolutely nothing to do with it at all. I used to think that to but my doctor said no. go to the doctor and see what they say

Neither being a virgin or taking care of yourself will cause an irregular period.
You may need the pill to regulate your cycle.
Go to the doctors and get the care that you need.
Good luck!

masturbatation has nothing to do with your period...thank god right?:) i went on the pill when i was barely 17 and thats when it finally regulated itself. as long as i dont switch brands, it always starts on a wednesday night, and ends that saturday morning. im now 30 and until recently havent had any major changes on that. this year, ive actually started to have mega cramps and bloating and such...because i smoke, and am now "over 30" i get to be checked out alot more and have more tests...wont get to be on the pill much longer so i guess my hubby gets to be fixed:) wont know what my body is going to do with a real un-interrupted period...not looking forward to it at this point.
