I just got a dishwasher installed last week after 3 years of not having one and finally got rid of the dish pan hands. I am so happy now!

yea, we use both, but mostly the dish washer, I'm worried my children won't know anything about HOW to clean a dish. I have noticed that our bill is lower, did yours go down?

LOL! Dude what took you so long? Wake up to how a first world country does things and wake up to what many of us have known for years. Did you know that I often sleep in front of my dishwasher with my sleeping bag when it's in operation, because I like the sound of it?

Electric dishwashers are a god send. I would literally have withdrawals if I didn't have one in my kitchen, especially with the way my roommates like to mess up the kitchen. They use tons of dishes and the e. dishwasher makes cleaning the kitchen, so much easier.

What's the trick to enjoying a dishwasher? --- Staying away from budget models. They're not worth the floor space they sit on in the store. If you're not spending $600 or more on a machine, you're wasting your time and money.

There will still be some things you can't wash in there, like some pots and pans items, anything that is super high concentrated protein like egg, or banana usually doesn't wash off in an e. dishwasher either. I've washed glass pots and dishes in my dishwasher that have baked on foods on them and they come out sparkling. Can you tell I'm an electric dishwasher fanatic and geek? Take a close look at my avatar.

Here's a helpful hint. Want to make the machine quieter? Email me to find out.

Yes, my houshold still does a lot of dishes by hand, but we also have a dishwasher. We dont want to ruin certain things so those get hand washed, the only items that go into the dishwasher are bowls, dinnerware (metal), plates, glasses, and dishes. So needless to say we still have a lot of items to hand wash! My family also has a cottage up north where we do not have a dishwasher, so every item there has to be hand washed. Let me tell you, if you go from primarily washing dishes in the dishwasher, then go to an environment where you dont have that, well then you fell incredibly spoiled from that dishwasher! It's no fun having to wash fork by fork etc.

My mother.
We moved two times in the past year and both houses had a dishwasher. But after 20 some years in america without a dishwasher, my little korean mother didn;t care about learning the art of easy, clean dishes.
My older sister just came and visited us over thanksgiving with her husband and they taught my mother all about the dishwasher. And for the first time in my mothers 45 years, she doesn;t wash the dishes by hand.

I still handwash my dishes and pots and pans.

I'm very sure that no machine will do a better job than ME !
Moreover, I'm doing it with LOVE and CARE as a wife and mother.

If you have dish pan hands, then, I believe the dishwasher will the ultimate move to stop your problem.

Good for you, now that you have no more problems with your hands.

Sure thing. We have a dishwasher and run that for ordinary things, but there is no way I want my fine crystal best china and various silver plate etc going through the dishwasher. Good items deserve good handling. I love my pretty items and I will care for them so there is something wonderful to pass to my children eventually.

I am so glad you have the machine now to make your life easier. Just be sure not to use it on wooden items, anodysed items and anything porous like bone handled flatware or even fine vases with gold edge and things like that. Those are better cared for by hand. Enjoy your brand new hands!

Cheers

I have a dishwasher but I do dishes by hand as well. They have come up with this amazing product, called hand lotion, that helps with the dish pan hands syndrome.

Naw, we stopped after we found out that none of our dinner guests could tell the difference between a clean plate and one licked by our two Black Labs, Sarah and Bear.

But we DO turn the dishwasher on after the meal to make the guests THINK we are cleaning them, there just ain't no water running in the thing.

And Nicolas L is right, it DOES use MUCH less water then even rinsing them.

We have had a dishwasher for a few years now but I still do a few things by hand. Wooden spoons and things with wood handles cause they can splinter. And pots and pans with Teflon cause it messes up the finish. Besides that I love not having to do all the silverware!

I do both dishwasher and wash my hand. During the winter months I use the dishwasher more to prevent the flu & colds. The summer I will do them by hand.

I still do them by hand, but I wish I had a dishwasher.

Incidentally, a report that came out recently said that washing dishes in a dish washer uses LESS water than washing by hand, so no "dish pan hands" and you're saving water.
