My mom said that it does. I never did take it though.

I don't know if Castor oil does but sex sure can and its a lot more fun! Feeling crampy and back pressure are sure signs of early labor! When in labor your whole body can hurt! Especially if you are really worked up or stressed so relax! Time them! If they are about 5 minutes then head for the hospital! If not then head to the nearest Walmart and walk around the store! Just walk and walk and walk! If the pain is getting more intense then go to the hospital!

Uhm, no it doesn't (tried 4 times), the only thing it's really good for is cleaning out your intestines. If your shoulder is hurting, I would suggest calling your dr. because I had that for a couple of weeks before my daughter was born, then ended up with a blood clot in my lung (mine was on the right side, though). Better to be safe, than sorry.
As far as getting things moving, though, here are some things that really did work for me. Walking (Wal-Mart was great, I could walk around and look at stuff, then stop and lean on the cart during contractions), nipple stimulation and orgasm (yup, that really does work, that's how I started labor with my 3rd child). My little sister helped her cervix by putting evening primrose oil capsules against it (it helps to thin and soften the cervix). Nothing will work, however, if the baby isn't ready to come out. But in most cases, none of these will do any harm, either.

Nothing besides walking and time will help induce labor. Your symptoms (besides the shoulder thing) sound like labor anyway, so no need to induce. Besides, your baby will come when it's ready. The crampiness is more than likely contractions and you should time them ASAP. And the back pain could be labor as well. Relax, sit, time those cramps and call the doctor if they're 10 minutes or less apart.

Castor oil only works on some women and you only drink it under doctor recommendation because it can cause very very strong contractions. If you are in early labor then you don't need the castor oil anyway. You need rest, water, food (or never eat again....lol.... thats how it feels anyway), juice (hydration with energy), and then to help the contractions along, nipple stimulation and walking. To do the nipple stimulation you can either massage the whole areola with a motion like a baby suckling or have your hubby or boyfriend suck on them (firm but gentle). Do the stimulation for only 15 min and get something to drink (that 15 min can be your resting time) then walk for a half hour then start the whole process over again.

The theory is that when the castor oil aggrevates the bowel, it will in turn cause the uterus to contract. Doesn't sound like a bad idea...I tried this for some really stupid reason with my second pregnancy. It is so disgusting. I put it in pepsi and drank it! I laid down and 20minutes later woke up and projectile vomited all over the wall. I had some abdominal cramping awful the next morning, too.I don't recommend this!Walk! Have sex! Stimulate your nipples to release oxytocin which natually causes contractions. Anything but castor oil!!!

I don't know if it really induces labor, but if you want to go into labor with severe diarrhea and possibly throwing up and having intestinal cramps along with contractions then by all means...Seriously though, your baby will only come out when it is ready. Take walks, and get lots of sleep so that you will be energized for the big day!!

It can work because it makes you really sick. You cramp up so much that it can cause labor. And diarrhea too. If it works, you'll have lots of cramping and pain. If it doesn't work, you'll still have lots of cramping and pain. Try walking or sex, much better on your body :)
