No. This is not North Korea. However, we should pay our volunteers what they are worth..if not in cash, help them more with school, homes, medical care, etc. The GI bill has been gutted since the seventies. If we sweetened the pot and limited ourselves to justified wars, we would have no problem raising as large a volunteer army as we need.

Yes, i think it should be mandatory for men for one or two years. The crime rates i bet would go down, make a man out of the punks who get in trouble all the darn time.
I do not beleive women need to serve in the military, when holding a gun makes women equals, so should a man changing childrens diapers, cleaning homes, doing wash, cooking, driving the kids etc, should always be the mans job too.

The first part of your question talks about mandatory military service, the other about equaity between men and women. Anyway, no, I don't agree with that at all (that service should be mandatory).

1 year compulsory service in either the military, forestry or urban renewal. This would be required at age 18 for people living in the US to earn citizenship. I would also think adopting the Australian process for elections would help. They have around 97% turn out for elections. If people do not vote they get a small fine. Based on the US debt another income stream would not hurt and an informed electorate would be a nice change of pace.

I think men and women should serve equally in the military, but I think that it should be voluntary for anyone whether they want to serve or not
