I've been up for almost 48 hours. I'm exhausted, but when I lie in bed, I just stare at the ceiling & think about things I didn't get done today.

Yup, it happens.

However, I think you should try to accept that you are only human, and can't do everything. There's a peace that comes from letting go.

When I can't sleep, I lay there and plan a picnic. Did I pack the hamburger? And the buns? And the ketchup? Pickles? Mustard? and on and on and on, right on down to the can opener and the salt and pepper......... That gets so boring, it puts me to sleep.

Yes often times:-

It is 5: 30 am now and I have been up since 3 am.

Sometimes I have been awake for about 3 days, not a good thing at all.

But when I do sleep it is usually sweet like a dormouse.

But sometimes I think all night while in my sleep, planing the following day out or trying to work something or other out.

Then may try to wake my self up; but cannot do so, so I give up trying and drift off again into a much deeper sleep.

I love to sleep though; and once wrote a poem about it.

Sleep

I love to sleep alone in my not so big a bed, as to be able to turn all ways. Sighing and lying, stretching and yawning. How I love to sleep.

It was given to me by the church. A single bed for a single person, but I Wanted a double, they are more moral. You can sleep apart in a double bed.

Have you ever had a wonderful dream and woke to wish it were true and not just a dream? I dreamed one night I was having a long pee. Though I was sorry it was not a dream after all,

Tut, tut, tut!

Hope you like it!

PS
If you cannot sleep at night try resting during the day time, or have a nap for a few hours

I have, and after the first day (it was 2 days) I had so much nervous energy that I was like a cat on a hot stove, I just could not sit still or shut up. But when I finally went to sleep I think I slept about 15 hrs. Bless you, I hope you get some sleep soon.

When I can't sleep, I take valerian. It is a safe herb, no side effects that I have ever heard, and I only take one capsule, once in a while. Or I drink valerian tea. Gently puts me to sleep within a half hour. Available at your local health food store. Benedryl makes me even more wired, and besides, people over 60 shouldn't take it.

This has happened to me on numerous accounts and no matter how many times it happens, it's uncomfortable EVERY time. If this doesn't happen often then you should be fine after awhile (that is if you try to sleep because that way you're body will get more and more - slowly unfortunately - used to going to sleep and then you'll finally be able to get into bed and be assured you won't be staring at the ceiling for hours and hours). It takes 3 days to get used a certain sleeping time so I'd suggest you get your body into a daily routine and daily bed-time so it can calm down and become comfortable again. You could also be having trouble sleeping because of the climate change which is happening because of the change of season. I woke up this morning, after going to bed at 1 in the morning, at 5 and I couldn't go back to sleep after that. Of course I had to go to school after that, but that's irrelevant.

They say warm milk before bed helps you to sleep because of what's in the warm milk in reaction to your body (try eating turkey before bed! - after Thanksgiving dinners everyone's sleepy). Try exercising before bed and perhaps some stretching because that gets your body tired and you sleep more soundly and have less bad dreams. Try taking an hour break before you plan on going to bed doing any type of relaxing activity of your choice (light reading, relaxing in the tub, watching a movie, laying in bed and listening to music while you crochet, etc.). This will give your mind and body enough time to cool down from all the busy work you've been doing all day. This should help because usually we can't sleep because our minds are always loose running about in our thoughts. Be persistent and don't give up because then you'll have to put up with more sleepless nights for longer period of time.

Try praying - God answers prayer if you truly believe it can happen.

Good Luck, Much Love - Sleep Well! : )

Before my friend and i had children we both worked midnight shifts at different jobs, we would get off work, go work some more with the horses, then go eat, then find other things to do all day , then go back to work. We did this for 4 days straight then we would sleep for a whole day , then do it all over again. For the past month i have had a hard time sleeping, i'll finally fall asleep at around 430 am, and have to be back up again at 730, to get my oldest off to school. So sleep is like an old friend i don't get to see much!!!

Used to happen to me all the time when I worked nights. Don't lie there and stare at the ceiling. Get up and do something. Don't put pressure on yourself to sleep. It won't work. Watch TV, read, do something until you feel sleepy. Try lying down. If you don't fall asleep in 20 minutes or so, get back up.

Back in the long ago, I used to
take cross-country trips.
when I got home and went to
bed, all I saw was the highway
and moving scenery. It took
me about 3 days to get to sleep.
Ditto: When I was out on a
boat all day, that night I was
weaving with the waves. I always did ok on small boats,
but the large boats made my
stomach do flip-flops.

You must really try and take away the focus of what you didn't get done that day, maybe try and do some deep breathing exercises and focus on that, you will be suprised how you forget the days niggles when you practice it, I know at first it easier said than done, but in time your brain gets used to you doing this and you will automaticly go into "brain rest" and fall quickly to sleep, I read this a short time ago and have started trying to do it as I also have problems sleeping....sometimes though it's my dogs fault....waking me to go for a tiddle...lol

Yes tonight... Two funerals in the rain and a broke down car... Think I'll turn this thing off and go stare at the ceiling some more and think about what I could have said in those two sermons but didn't.

Good night all.

Blessings,
john

Yup. Husband went to Iraq....couldn't sleep out of worry for 48 hours....couldn't sleep after that because i was waiting for the phone to ring. Yeah....I've gone 5 or 6 days without decent sleep. Dozed of for a few minutes, but wouldn't count that as sleep.
