There was a movie from the 90's its a kids movie, its rated PG. This boy who is home from school or something like that, finds a book and reads it but by reading it he is part of it. There is a bubblegum tree that smells like pizza in it and a mermaid. I dont remember what else but I was hoping someone might know what it is.

The Neverending Story was about a boy who read a book that he became a part of, but he was hiding in the school's attic and the book was about a young Indian brave named Atreyu and an Empress and a storm called The Nothing that destroyed their mythical land of Fantasia. I don't know about a bubblegum tree or a mermaid,though. Maybe it could be a sequel, but i'm not really sure. Sorry.

i don't remember a bubblegum tree, but it sounds like the Neverending Story.
