I have a German Shepherd X Border Collie. She was very easy to train and is very obediant.
Whenever someone is in the backyard with her, she patrols the entire yard and doesn't let any bird or insect in. Due to her bordie collie side, she also likes to round things up, especially our other dog.
Also really loves playing games, especially if they involve running. She is such a fast runner, once she chased and cat and you couldn't even see her legs moving (she didn't catch it though, t'is okay).
When inside, she leaves clumps of hair all over the place. :P
She also gets bored inside... she does love being around us, but always begs to go into the backyard so that she can patrol and guard it.
She makes a very good guard dog (although she wouldn't actually attack someone (more likely to lick them to death), she can give them a very good scare with the running and barking).
I can imagine that a German Shepherd X Husky would indeed need A LOT of excerise.

As a owner of three I think there wonderful, there not mixes so I don't know about the husky part. My male which is about 2 is vary active and loves to chase things like are barn cats and cows I've got him trained to cue's so he knows when to and when not to but they do need room to run, but my big boy also love to be a lap dog and would lay on me all day if I let him. There also vary protective dogs my boy hates men, he'll place him self between them and me and if he really doesn't like them he'll kinda growl and raise his hackles and just stare at them till I pat him or snap my fingers. Mine don't seem to shed except in the spring. We'll all I can say is I think German Shepperd's are great dog's and just because there known to have temper's doesn't mean there bad dogs, It's all in the way there raised, and treated.

They're intelligent and strong. The one big downside to them is that they shed almost constantly.
